Hello ladies,

I am posting this e-mail for . Her computer is not allowing her to send

messages to our group's mailbox. She would appreciate any of your responses

to these following questions.

* From ...

Is hysteroscopic resecion a very simple procedure and therefore can be done

by any Ob/Gyn or do I need an experienced M.D. for it? My ob/gyn says she's

done it many times and I shouldn't worried.

If it is a simple procedure, why is general anesthesia necessary and not

local anesthesia? Could it be that my ob/gyn saw how nervous I was and then

mentioned general anesthesia so that I won't know a thing when the procedure

is being done?

What's the possible side-effect in this simple procedure? I have many

fibroids and heavy periods. I don't want to do anything that's too invasive

or irreversible so my ob/gyn hasn't put pressure on me to do something. I

told her I must endure the heavy bleeding since I'm too scared to have

anything done surgically. (A total of three ob/gyn believed hysterectomy was

the best option for me)

I'm taking zinc, multivitamin with herbs, super B-complex, iron, vitamin E,

vitamin C, and calcium. Hopefully these pills do some good to my body and

lessen my bleeding.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I don't believe that resection is a technically " simple " procedure,

and it cannot be done by just any Ob/Gyn. Your doctor needs special

training. I would ask your gyn how many is " many times " that she

has done it.

I had general anesthesia for my resection. I didn't ask if I could

have a local, but I would prefer not to be awake in a cold bright

room with people working on me.

Possible side effects are perforation of the uterus and fluid

overload. Not to scare you but these can be very serious. That is

why you need a doctor with lots of experience and who uses multiple

safeguards during surgery.

Even if you are left with other fibroids that are not inside your

uterus you should have a lot of relief from your heavy periods by

having the submucousal fibroids removed. This site: has a good

explanation of why submucousal fibroids cause bleeding problems:

A resection is very easy to recover from since there is no incision

made. The worst part for me was getting the IV put in because I am

a big wuss. I had no pain at all after the procedure.

As long as you have submucousal fibroids you will most likely have

bleeding problems. You don't want them to get so big that a

resectin is not possible and your only option is abdominal surgery.
