Have you looked into a Uterine Artery Embolization. I have not had one

yet but there is information on the web. There is a group in Yahoo the

Uterine Artery Embolization Group. Go there and you will find more help.

I was also on alessee bcp's to control the bleeding of fibroids.

They did not work unless I took 3 per day----way to much hormone!!!

After a couple of months I stopped the bcp's and decided to have a

Uterine Artery Ebolization in Oct. of 2003. Glad I did it. No more

excessive bleeding so far.

My current gyno said my problem is too much estrogen so NO more bcp's.

She currently has me on 400mg's of Prometrium and using 1/4 tsp. of natural

progesterone cream (the cream is used twice daily). I have had in the last 6

months or more of bleeding..........only one occassion of a 10 day break and

sometimes I had 2-3 days usually it just slows down for about 18 hours and then

starts back up again. I want a hysterectomy but my doctor thinks I am too

young(36). She also thinks since my husband died last year (July 24th) that God

will send me someone else and I will want children. She is so mistaken as far

as I am concerned. Anyway--the prometrium & the cream have slowed the heaviness

down. But the bleeding just about everyday is still a huge pain.

I was on depo for 4 years and am so glad I am off of it! My periods would stop

but I would have breakthrough bleeding about a month before my next shot was

due. They weren't too bad until last August. I started to bleed and pass huge

clots. I begged my doctor to put me on BCP, which she did (Aviane which is a

generic for Alesse). My periods now are light and only last a few days, nothing

compared to what they used to be.

I found out about 6 weeks ago that I have fibroids and my appointment with my

GYN is on Monday. I hope he doesn't want me off the pill because for the first

time in my life I am enjoying a 'normal' period. However, I am in a lot of pain

from the fibroids.

I am getting ready to return to my doctor this Friday and the route

she wants to take is birth control. I have never taken birth control

and know very little about the options that are available.

I have a number of fibroids - three of them extremely large; heavy

bleeding, period two weeks out of 24 days, painful cramping, etc.

(you know the drill). I have tried numerous alternatives to Western

medicine and they did not work.

I've looked around on some of the web sites that focus on fibroids

but I did not find information on them about birth control as an

option for fibroids. I'd appreciate any advice, resources, etc. that

you can offer.

It's nice that your doctor is open to alternatives and was

interested and thoughtful to consider the possibility than in future

years you might want children.

I think a myomectomy would be a better choice for fibroids. There

are various aspects to consider. Even if you ultimately don't have

another relationship, you will still want to avoid any health

problems that may come with an early hysterectomy.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss and you really didn't

need health problems on top of that. Hang in there...best wishes

for your appointments and the year ahead.

When I was diagnosed with fibroids, I was already on b/c pills. So my doc

switched me to a heavy duty pill called Lo-Ovral. It helped with the mid-cycle

bleeding, but that was it. I still had long periods, lots of clotting, lots

of pain, headaches, backaches,etc. My periods went from 5 to 14 days long even

on the b/c pills. It was just a bandaid for me until I decided to do a UAE.

I think the pills help some women, but not everyone. Good luck.
