Hi ladies!

Well, I have a uterine fibroid that is about 7 cm that I was

diagnosed with about 3-4 months ago. I don't think it causes me any

problems except for pressure and I think that it may be causing me

some pain. The thing is I was just diagnosed endometriosis through

laparoscopy 2 wks ago. I was wondering since I'm only 19, and it's

already a pretty good size...That next Time when my Gyn goes in to

remove endo, if it would be a good idea to talk to her about

removing the fibroid while she is in there laparoscopically? I go in

on wednesday for my post-op appt. so I was just wondering if I

should talk to her about that when I go in, or not. Like I said I am

young and want children down the road, I don't want this thing to

get out of hand and cause me problems down the road with child-

bearing. Well, that's my question, I would love some input on

whether or not I should leave it alone, or talk to her about

removing it. I look forward to hearing back from some of you!

Hi a

It's very unusual to have a fibroid so young- most

women get them in their 30's and 40's.

I would definitely talk to your gyae about the fibroid

too- especially if it is causing you some problems and

you should also bear in mind the fact that it could

grow and then cause you more poblems.

All the best

Sue

There's a book by Srah BRewer? that discusses both Endo and

fibroids. Also Lark books on diet etc. cover both.

How awful to have this at 19.

Is more laproscopy scheduled/discussed? It may well depend on where

your fibroid lies and the type. It's certainly worth raising the

subject and seeing what she says about the pros and cons. Do a web

search on Dr. Indman and Dr Toaff's web sites regarding laparoscopic

myo and laparotomy myo's too.

I'd probably be asking:

* About uterine integrity with different fibroid removal approaches

* About possible future C section

* About the pros and cons of watch and monitor in your case

* About which options are appropriate and inapropriate and why in

his/her opinion?

* About the likelihood/unlikelihood of different post surgery

problems

* About living with and treating endometriosis

* Birth control - what are the facts in regard to fibroids and endo.

* symptom control

* Are my symptoms definitely definitely caused by the fibroids and

endometriosis, especially taking into consideration the location of

the fibroids.

I wouldn't like to say what's the right thing to do here, but I hope

you have a good meeting with the gynaecologist. I did read in the

Melbourne fibroid clinic book that even with the less symptomatic

fibroids there's a case for treating the fibroids when they're still

at a size to be done by keyhole surgery. I don't know. I can tell

you that recovery from the abdom myo was much easier than I expected

and the scar is hardly visible and hidden anyhow. I can also tell

you I still have the same symptoms as before the myo (Bleeding

wasn't one of them). (Check out fibroid books online at fibroid

charity sites and well known internet bookseller sites).
