Guest guest
Hi Its been a long time since I posted as since my myo a few years back I have been on an even keel. Any way, I received a call from my doc and my blood work came back that I am iron deficient but not anemic as the blood count is good. The last time this happened I was totally anemic so it kind of made sense to me...however, in the past they did all kinds of follow up to try to understand why this happened. the end result was nothing could be found and I used alot of iron, but I suspect it might have been the fibroids. Although, the growth was on top of the fundus into my ab cavity so I did not experience the horrible periods and would not be able to tell if this was the truth. Now here I am walking that same road and have been told to eat more meat...2-3 times a wk of red meat is enough...or take iron again. I want to know the cause not the treatment...could this be the fibroids in the AB cavity causing a " slow " leak...has any one heard of this or does any one have any ideas? thanks
Guest guest
Hi...I am new here...and have enjoyed the info...I too have just been informed of low iron...but the blood count is fine.....the doctor just started me on Chromagen Forte once a day.....for some reason the body is using the iron stores......and possibly from the perios and blood loss each month, but has not seemed that heavy to me.......so not sure either.......look up Iron deficiancy on the search engine and there are several sites...I am curios also.....but said I would increase the iron intake and do the meds..and hope it helps.....several things can cause this from what I have been reading! Good luck!~
Guest guest
Hi, Maybe your doc is trying to tell you that your iron stores are deficient. Your counts could be normal and your stores could be low. Anemia is common amoung women of childbearing years who have " normal " periods. It's also common amoung pregnant women. Once you have anemia and it reaches a certain point, diet alone won't build your iron levels back up, you'd need iron pills. If your iron stores aren't too depleted you can try a good multivitamin with 100% iron and Total cereal is a great source of iron and vitamins. You'll need vitamin C for absorbtion. But you might want to take iron pills for a short time to build up your iron more quickly. You are right, Anemia is a symptom of a underlying problem. It can have many causes. Poor diet and a normal period would be enough. It could be a fibroid but only in certain locations. A fibroid that doesn't allow the uterus to clamp down properly. This will increase your bleeding and lead to anemia. You can ask for a saline ultrasound and this would give you a better picture (than a regular ultrasound) of the inside of your uterus. A MRI gives a even better picture but your insurance might not agree to the expense. Ask for the ultrasound. Rule this out. My friend became severely anemic due to a ovarian cyst. You can also lose blood in your bowels. There's just many reasons for anemia. You might try iron pills for a short time. Then do the multivitamin with iron and Total. Don't let it get out of hand because it takes a long time to build your stores back to normal. Up to a year. Ask for the saline scan. You might have your answer. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply and also Jane C. I am going to pursue and ask them to tell me where the iron is being lost as I too have what I would say is not heavy periods and I do eat meat...so we need to try to figure this out. Take care > Hi, > > Maybe your doc is trying to tell you that your iron stores are deficient. Your counts could be normal and your stores could be low. Guest guest
Hi...This sounds so much like what I have been dealing with...my period is not what I would call real heavy..so where is it going or is just an absorption issue. I have to see my doc on Fri so will discuss further as I only know from the voice mail that if I lost a major amount of blood my iron stores are too low. Thank you for the info and will check further. Would be interested if you learn something more in the mean time. Feel free to email me. Thanks Lyn > Hi...I am new here...and have enjoyed the info...I too have just been informed of low iron...but the blood count is fine.....the doctor just started me on Chromagen Forte once a day.....for some reason the body is using the iron stores......and possibly from the perios and blood loss each month, but has not seemed that heavy to me.......so not sure either.......look up Iron deficiancy on the search engine and there are several sites...I am curios also.....but said I would increase the iron intake and do the meds..and hope it helps.....several things can cause this from what I have been reading!
