Guest guest
I'm home, part 2(and the last part)of my fibroid journey is OVER.... I had a Resection in Feb for what was thought to be polyps but turned out to be a pendunculated submucosal fibroid, recovery was minimal (much much easier than I anticipated). On monday 10/5 I had a UAE for an ~7cm Fundal Intramural/Submucosal fibroid.I am SOOO glad it is all over. Like most of you I did all my own research after being told a Vag Hyst would solve my problems,I don't think so!!! I joined this list in june 02 and have found the information gleaned tremendous - THANK YOU ALL. The day started off ominously when my flight interstate was cancelled and I arrived 1 hr late to the hospital BUT the procedure went very well.My fundal was fed by the right uterine artery only with no ovarian involvement (as someone else said-a load off my mind!)but the IR embolised both arteries needing a mini catheter for the left(the only hitch). It took 1hr and that was it! I didn't need to use the PCA at all, just took a couple of paracetamols for the cramps. There was no bladder catheter so no urinary problems and no nausea or constipation because I didn't use the morphine.I was given only a shot of Fentanyl for pain and an anti-biotic just in case prior to the procedure. The worst part was having the intravenous line put in but that's always a problem with me :-(,it was third time lucky and done by the IR same for the resection three times and done by the head anaethiologist. Anyway I was climbing the walls to leave the next morning after brekkie(best thing about the hospital was that I was in the front of the hospital with a window bed and had the most spectacular view of Sydney harbour, the city and harbour bridge.I spent most of the night, as an ex Sydneysider, soaking up the view )but couldn't until pain management came to disconnect the pump I hadn't used.I was there 20hrs and left with ibuprofen, paracetamol and something super duper just in case pain came on,which it hasn't yet, fingers crossed. So I haven't had any pain since, my stomach just feels a little tender as if i've done too many situps when I bend too much.My period started on Tues on time and with a few small clots but reduced blood flow. All in all I wonder if I had anything done at all,not normal for me as usually I am THE BIGGEST WUSS.I definately would recommend this procedure and as usual the waiting and agonising are worse than the actual Op.Sorry so long .Sharon(Brisbane)
