I've had a bunion since my early 20s. About 10 years ago (10 years after I first

noticed the bunion), I saw a podiatrist about it, and he said that as long as

the bunion isn't bothering me much, I should leave it alone, since a

bunionectomy is major surgery. The bunion still doesn't hurt much as long as I

don't wear high heels or pointy shoes. The only thing that bothers me about it

is the way it looks, but I think I'm probably being oversensitive about it.

A bunionectomy is major reconstructive surgery that often causes quite a bit of

pain afterwards. Your body will be stressed from the bunionectomy, so you'll

want to leave a good space of time in between your bunionectomy and your

hysterectomy. Two weeks does not sound like enough time.

Here is one doctor's timeline for recovery from a bunionectomy:

Hi Annette,

I had bunion surgery on one foot in the fall of 2001. I was never on

crutches, just a cane, and I could walk short distances (like to the

bathroom) right away. It was very painful for the first 3-4 days,

but the swelling continued for 2 solid weeks so I didn't feel like

walking for a while.

If I were in your shoes (sorry, bad pun) I don't think I'd want to

have two surgeries so close together. Seems like it would be a lot

of stress on the body.

Merely my opinion, of course. It could well turn out to be no big

deal.

Good luck either way,

bunion. Right now I've scheduled the foot surgery 2 weeks before the

hyst, but now I'm wondering if I'll be OK enough to walk around. I

know I won't be able to do crutches after the hyst.

Thank you Cheryl and for your recommendations. I am still undecided. I

spoke with the Podiatrist's nurse and she said she told the doctor my details.

He said I'd be fine to go ahead witht he hyst. Still deciding.
