I have both heavy bleeding and shortened cycles (from 28 days to about 21--bleeding for 9). My doctor said that fibroids cause heavy bleeding but not irregular cycles and is conducting some other tests. I have my myo scheduled for July 8. Guest guest Posted June 22, 2004 Report Share Posted June 22, 2004 My cycle was like clockwork up until the last few months. Now my periods come every 35 days or so and last up to 14 days. I recently spoke to a nurse practitioner and she said the same thing - women with fibroids usually have regular cycles but their periods last longer and tend to be heavier. I'm not sure if my fibroid is causing the irregular cycles or if its stress, another strong possibility. I've always been very regular, almost to the exact 28 days. My myo is scheduled for June 29 and I'm really hoping my heavy bleeding lessens and the cycles go back to normal. I've also experienced a discharge (for the past two years) midway between the cycles of a brownish " slime " for several days.
