Guest guest
Hello I had my myo on May 17th & pre-op included only bloodwork. I didn't have an EKG or chest x-ray. I didn't have a urinalysis either. I didn't think twice about not having the EKG & when I asked, they said they only do it if there's a history of heart problems. They did ask my room preference at the pre-op. Cheryl
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for the info. I do have a heart condition so not only did I have to have an EKG I also had to have my cardiologist fax over results from my last stress echocardiogram. I guess every hospital has their variations??? -Shaunah I didn't think twice about not having the EKG & when I asked, they said they only do it if there's a history of heart problems. Guest guest
When I was in hospital the lady in the bed opposite me had two wrist- bands. She explained to me that she couldn't have a certain type of medicine and that on another occasion in a different hospital a doctor had doubted her. she said to him, well you can try it if you like. I'm ready to die, but are YOU willing to take that chance?? Do remind anyone dealing with anaesthesia about the asthma as you're being taken into surgery. If it's important that you aren't given a certain kind of drug, discuss the possibility of a wrist band, remind every nurse and doctor about to give you injections or pills. Mention it at the pre- op. day. Also on the day of your operation when you have a chat and sign a permission form, remind them again then. There's no harm in reminding, because sometimes people do forget to pass on bits of paper and information. Assume nothing. I wasn't asked for urine analysis before my abdom. myo. Get medical advice about the keltoid skin and your surgery internal and external scars. Incidentally, I have a friend who lives in a hot country and who commented that spot scars healed differently (less visibly, I think) in our less sunny climate. I don't know if that's true.
