Guest guest
HI!! I am visiting my family in S. America and have been to see 3 gynaecologists and the diagnosis of all three of them is a total hysterectomy. Two of them work at top University Hospitals (one of them has been teaching there for 27 years). I have a multi nodular fibroid uterus that is making me look 5 months pregnant. The symptoms have been heavy bleeding and anaemia. I was operated on for a fibroid in Dec 2002 in Britain and was told that the rest of the fibroids were not operable, I am not sure why (but I think because they were intramural). The good thing about the operation is that the bleeding went down to one third and has kept to that ever since. But they also told me that the fibroids would continue to grow. I went to see my GP (general doctor) around November 2003 and he referred me to see a gynaecologist because my abdomen had a large mass (fibroids). I was on the waiting list to get an MRI but as I was travelling to see my folk for an extended holiday from Christmas up to 2 June 2004, I wasn't able to get MRI. So, I got it done here, where my parents live. And the result is that I was advised to get operated on within two months by one of the gynaecologists (about 2 weeks ago) and within four months by the other one (about 10 days ago). As I was due to return to Britain on 2 June 2004: I was wondering what the recovery period for a total hysterectomy was. How soon would I be able to fly (a very long journey: 10 hours by plane to the US and then 10 hours waiting at the airport before boarding the next 10 hour flight back to Britain.) If I were to get operated on in the next week, to 10days, would I be OK to fly back by 2 June 2004? (I have a plane ticket that can't be put forward.) How soon could I start working, cycling, etc.? Thanks for your help V.
