Guest guest
I am new to this group and need help. I have been managing fibroids for more than 10 years. In January they began to grow rapidly. Over the 10 years I have had 3 ultrasounds to keep track of their size and 6 weeks ago my ultrasound showed an 8 cm on the bowel and a 7cm on the bladder and several more in the 3-6 cm range, all in the wall muscle. Last month I did not stop bleeding so I want on the pill to try to regularize things. Worked fine as I began to read books and this list for 2 weeks, and I began to discuss my options with my gyno. His first choice is a supra cervical hysto with removal of the ovaries. I asked about a UAE and he said that I may be a candidate for that procedure and that in the DC area where I am Dr. Spies was tops. When I asked about a myo which I have read so much about on this list, he said it was low on the list of options because it is bloody, intended for younger women who want to keep their fertility (I am 51) and the fibroids can come back. But after reading so much on this list I think I would really prefer the myo. I planned to research my options and get a second opinion and do something in September. Then yesterday I ended up in the emergency room because the fibroid has blocked my bladder. I now have a catheter and a Foley bag and feel my options have gone out the window. My Dr. in on vacation and will be back next Tues. when I will see him. His office has pencilled me in for a hysto for a week from Friday. Yesterday just out of the ER I was more accepting. Today I want my options back. Any advice? Can anyone recommend a myo Dr. in the DC area? Lynn
