In my case, it felt worse if I did too much twisting, such as when I'd turn to read to my daughter while she was sitting next to me. I don't know what causes that feeling, but I do know that your doctor probably did a fair amount of manipulating your insides, because he had to move your abdominal muscles out of the way in order to reach your uterus and fibroids. Walking is a great idea. It helps keep your digestive and circulatory systems moving properly, and also can give you an emotional boost. It's really helpful to be able to get outside for a short while every day, because otherwise you might start feeling trapped in your house. Just take a short walk at first and then increase it every day as you feel able. Listen to your body and you'll be all set. > 2. I know we're not supposed to drive for tht first 2 weeks but does > that include being a passenger as well?? Traveling by car as a passenger is fine. One of the reasons you don't want to be the driver is because your abdominal muscles, which you need to use while driving, are still healing and aren't reliable. Also, since you'll be more tired than usual, you probably won't react quickly if something unexpected happens. Guest guest
Cheri, I'm SO glad you had a good experience and it sounds like you are well on the way to recovery. Make sure you really take it easy. As for being in a car. You can be a passenger if the bumps don't hurt you. As for walks, I tried to walk as much as possible to get things moving. Uphill was a bit hard. What helped me with that feeling that " everything was going to falll out " was a maternity belt. It did wonders for me! Maybe we can get together next time I'm in Vancouver and compare notes! > Hello Ladies! > Well it's been almost a week since my myo & it was the best decision > I ever made!!! > > I remember waking up in the recovery room after my surgery & > immediately feeling relief even in my groggy state. Guest guest
Cheri, was exactly right. You should walk just as much as you like. I had my myo on a Monday, came home Wednesday morning and slept that whole afternoon. My first walk outside was on Friday and I walked outside every day after that. By two weeks I could walk at a moderate pace (not real brisk) for 30-40 minutes or so. In fact, the weekend just before my two-week checkup we took the subway to go eat out and walked around a bit -- I wanted to test whether I could do this together with my husband, to see if I needed him to be off work to help me get to and from my two-week post-op appointment (I didn't -- in fact, after the doctor's appointment I took myself out to lunch and then took the subway home). Then at three weeks we visited my sister and her husband for New Year's (short plane ride -- I wouldn't have been able to handle a long car ride at that point) and walked all over then too. Mainly at that point I could do one outing a day, even a substantial one, and I still needed a nap most days. And when I got tired, it happened real suddenly and I needed to rest right away -- I couldn't keep going. It takes a while to build your reserves back up. Everyone is different -- I've heard stories of faster and slower recuperations here. Do what feels right to you. Sunny > > 1. Did any of you go for short walks in the first couple weeks?
