Guest guest
I had a myo without Lupron, not needed. The best decision of my life!
Guest guest
: I had a very successful abdominal myomectomy for a quite large FT, and what turned out to be 20 additional others, of varying sizes, WITHOUT lupron. I have found that the more experienced and confident surgeons do not feel the need to put you through the Lupron drill; they have the ability to work with the large, the complicated, and the unknown. I am extremely satisfied with my decision to have the myo vs. hysterecomy. Myomectomy and Lupron I have 3 fibroids measuring from 7.2 to 1.5 cms, I have major weight gain and loss within the same week (+ 6/7 pounds) with major bleeding at time of period. My surgeon recommends that I take Lupron before my myomectomy. Has anyone in the group done that?. Have you had any side effects or/and bad experience with the Lupron. The other alternative recommended is the hysterectomy. Which one would you choose: Myomectomy and Lupron or Histerectomy.
Guest guest
What about a UFE? Uterine Fibroid Embolization? This is a wonderful procedure that you should look into. It is not major obdominal surguery, your body and uterus are left in tact, 1-2 weeks recovery, and symtoms of bleeding are totally relieved. The fibroids will not grow back! (small chance of finding a new blood supply, but this rarely happens) Look into this, and don't let your doc talk you into a hysterectomy! Hi : Depending on your age, and other factors such as childbearing and emotional/social issues, you may want to keep your uterus. That decision is up to you, but don't let a doctor convince you the organ needs to be removed. That decision is yours and yours only. If a doctor tells you a hysterectomy is the only thing that can be done for you, run as far as you can the other way to another doctor who can give you a better prognosis and other options. Seek 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions from other doctors on your condition before you consent to anything you don't want to have. For me, I have been on Lupron for the past 6 months. I have a 2 cm submucosal fibroid. The Lupron stopped my bleeding in the 2nd month pretty much completely. My body needed a break from all the bleeding. I plan to have a hysteroscopic resection of the fibroid in May (hope). The Lupron is controversial with long term side effects not know yet (I think it has been on the market for about 9 yrs.). For me the LUpron took away the major sympton -bleeding. I tire easily on it and I must say my muscles and joints feel different. It is hard on your bones and you have to use add back therapy (estrogren) or take calcium 1400 mg. daily while your on it. Hope my information helps you. Guest guest
Hi, I begged my dr. for Lupron to avoid hyst and got a big NO! So I found a few docs that did myomectomy and none recommended lupron, yeah for me! My fibroids were huge ...way bigger than yours and in the way of a serious gyn condition that needed treatment. Good luck with or without lupron. I'd be looking at other options or drs. before taking the lupron- it's not for everyone. Jan G.
Guest guest
I would choose myomectomy, not only to retain fertility, but also to avoid potential problems associated more with the hysterectomy. he age you have a hysterectomy may make a difference too(?) Check the links on this site or Carla's or NUFF's and on one of those you should find a linked article about hysterectomies. There's also a support group called hyster-sisters. There are some other treatment options for fibroids that may, or may not be appropriate for your case. UAE is one of them. There's not much point in worrying you talking about things that *could* go wrong, but probably won't. There are pros and cons with ALL treatments. Hysterectomies are all too often doled out unecessarily. There is however, no guarantee that a fibroid sufferer who has had a myo won't get fibroids again in the future. A future pregnancy may also require a C section. Sometimes not all the fibroid or fibroids are removed. You can always have another myo, and that may be preferable to something like prolapse or what have you. Then again, what are the experiences of the women on hyster- sisters after surgery? The abdominal surgery seems scary and everyone's experiences vary, but I found it much much better than I expected. You can pull up a lot of myo stories on this site by typing keywords like 'morphine' that relate only to hospital stays. My own account is on the Smartgroups UK 'myo diary thread'(Cat). I wasn't prescribed any shrinking drugs in my case. Sometimes they're prescribed and sometimes they're not. Do a search on 'The Fibroid Place' forum too. Guest guest
Lupron is not only used to hopefully, shrink fibroids but to get your Iron counts up prior to surgery. If you are anemic, that may be why your Dr. is suggesting Lupron...not because he has a lack of confidence in his surgical skills. > I have found that the more experienced and confident surgeons do not feel the need to put you through the Lupron drill; they have the ability to work with the large, the complicated, and the unknown. > I am extremely satisfied with my decision to have the myo vs. hysterecomy. Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, I have tried to post twice on this site and been unsuccessful. My biggest problem with my 5cm fibroid is bleeding and because I am 41 my doctor is trying to persuade me to have a hysterectomy. The bleeding won't stop so now I am Lupron so far for a week the bleeding is still happening and now I am scared because my blood is low. I am taking the iron supplements given me by the doctor and have to eat three solid meals a day. My insurance will not come in until May so I am looking for a doctor on Kaiser insurance that has done a few myomectomies. My doctor says that will be my only other alternative. If you have any advice or information. I look forward to hearing about it.
