Guest guest
Hi & welcome to the board! You will feel VERY tired right after your surgery from the anesthesia & pain meds...I doubt you will want to or be able to shower until at least 1 or 2 days after the surgery. Depending on the hospital & time of your surgery, you will probably get up (standing) for the first time about 12-24 hours after the procedure. You may feel lightheaded & probably won't be up for very long. You will likely be advised to take your pain meds before doing this. By the day after the surgery you will probably be up & walking but will probably need some assistance & will want someone close by in case you get lightheaded. The first few days are definitely the toughest - you will start feeling a little better each day. You will probably not be allowed to drive for 2 weeks or so after the procedure & won't be able to lift anything of any weight for at least a few weeks. Depending on what you will be doing during your medical leave you may start 'enjoying' it after the first week or two - hopefully you're not planning any huge projects because you will probably find that you will tire easily & will need a lot of rest both at night and naps during the day. Good luck to you with your surgery & keep us posted. ~Cindy > I am wondering how bad I will feel immediately following surgery.
Guest guest
Hi, I just had my ab myomectomy on March 18th so I'm on 11 days post and feeling pretty good. I am still a little slow walking and bending bothers me, but I'm getting around very well. I've already cleaned my house, went grocery shopping and today decided to go shop just to shop. I have a vertical incision so bending has been a big problem. I had my surgery done at 9am and it lasted about 2.5 hours. Then I had trouble getting a room for some reason and spent 3 hours in recovery which is unusual. Once I got to my room I was fine. I didn't move around a lot and was on some serious pain killers. They would inject me through my IV with pain meds and I'd feel like I was high. I was in bed until the next morning. The next morning an aid came right in and said ok your getting up it's time to change your bed. She took my arm and I pushed up with my other arm and I was standing. The first time you stand is very uncomfortable or it was for me. They gave me a pillow that said hug me on it. So anytime I would walk, sit or stand I would push this pillow into my stomach for support. I was also given an abdomen binder that I still wear when I'm going to be walking around a lot. It has helped me. I know there is a big difference between vertical and bikini cut. As for showering I was told to get one the next day, but I didn't because I knew I was going home the next morning and wanted to take one in my own shower. So after 11 days like I said my biggest problems are I still walk rather slow, bending and my incision itches like crazy. The only other trouble is healing time constraints like I'm not supposed to drive for 3 weeks and I can't pick my daughter up for 4 weeks so they are posing an inconvience, but nothing I can't handle. Well, I hope I answered some of your questions. Everyone is so different on how they handle something like this. I wish you the best of luck. Guest guest
I needed a transfusion after my myo in Dec 03. My fibroids were the size of an 8 month preg. I needed 8 pints of blood and embolization to stop the bleeding. My hemo dropped to 3.Thank God I'm doing fine now and dont have any regrets. > I have searched through about 4000 emails on this board and have > found some interesting information about myomectomy but have a few > more questions... > > First of all, I'll explain that I am 33, no kids and I've had heavy > non-stop periods for many years do to multiple small fibroids in the > walls of my uterus.
