Guest guest
FREE PATIENT SEMINARS ON UFE: There will be a number of free patient-information seminars on UFE around the country in the next couple of months. These are sponsored or promoted by Biosphere – which does have an interest in promoting UFE – but still. Here’s a link to their web-page (go to the bottom for the list of free UFE seminars) http://www.ask4ufe.com/news_events.cfm Dr. Mahmood Razavi – the I.R. who spoke at Opening Doors, is doing one of the seminars – April 22 at Stanford Univ. He was an excellent, entertaining and very informative speaker & I highly recommend him – he even has a great sense of humor. If the rest of the speakers are half as good, these seminars should be very educational & well worth attending – even if you have to travel a bit to get to one. If none are close enough to you, there’s a link where you can sign up to get notification of future seminars as they are scheduled. THE SOY THING The soy thing seems to be a big conundrum. For instance, here are 2 publications in the same journal within weeks of one another. One says it doesn’t really affect estrogen levels in post-menopausal women; the other that it DOES protect against bone loss. – I can think of a number of theoretical explanations, but still . . . http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1\ 4749241&dopt=Abstract http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=retrieve&db=pubmed&list_uids=1\ 4985213&dopt=Abstract Fact is, we I think we don’t know nearly enough about most things nutritional. Meanwhile, as a vegetarian – I have to get my protein somewhere and soy is one excellent source. As a perimenopausal woman I do feel that soy has been helpful to me (maybe I’m crazy – but that’s how it seems to me). I agree that we shouldn’t overdo anything. Too much of a good thing can be harmful. Heck, people have even died from drinking way too much water. LOLA: I would advise getting MORE than one opinion. You might want to take a look at Dr. ’s post on fibroids and fertility -- #42219. Knowing the number, location and sizes of your fibroids should help you make a decision. And the RE suggestion seems like it might be a good idea. Ultimately, the more informed you are the better you’ll be able to decide what you want to do in order to treat your fibroids, and when you want to do it. – If you aren’t trying to get pregnant again soon & as long as you are pretty symptom free – you DO have TIME to get all the information you need and consider all the options carefully before making your decision and taking action. Dr. Wm. says, in his book “A Gynecologist’s Second Opinion” – “The vast majority of women who are pregnant and have fibroids encounter no problems. They go on to have full-term, healthy babies without difficulty.” There are women on this board, who have conceived and carried pregnancies successfully with fibroids. There are others besides yourself who have experienced miscarriages which may have been related to their fibroids. I myself have wondered many times these last few years whether that darn pedunculated submucosal fibroid may have interfered with my pregnancy 20 years before it otherwise interfered with my life. My son was a 1200 gram, 28 week baby – (he’s now a nearly 28 year old 200 pound adult). Also we have to remember, miscarriage in a fibroid woman is not always due to the fibroids. I wish there were pat answers – that someone could say that in thus and so situation it’s always best to do this or that. Unfortunately, it’s usually not that clear. -- Ultimately the only person who can make the decision is YOU. There are risks either way and you have to consider your own situation and your own preferences and what chances you are and are not willing to take & what makes you more or less comfortable. Obviously, you need to understand the risks and benefits in order to make the correct decision for yourself. PS: I'd love to see you again at the April MeetUp. Best to all, Pat _________________________________________________________________ Get rid of annoying pop-up ads with the new MSN Toolbar – FREE! http://toolbar.msn.com/go/onm00200414ave/direct/01/
