Hey hun,

Don't give up. I have had cycles with HORRIBLE menstrual cramps since 7.5 years

old.

Once I get a good doctor here, I will opt for a myomyectomy, too, if need be.

I suffer from the horrible menstrual cramps, extreme bloating, and back pain,

all due to the fibroids in my uterus.

I'm also 29, and have no children. Try to not let pain be your deciding factor.

Women now have babies much later in life, just whenever the time is right.

My mom, back in 1974, had me at the age of 37 years. She met daddy later in her

life, married him, and had me and my middle sister. Had she let herself have a

hysterectomy due to her fibroids in her mid 20's after having my 1st sister at

18, I'd not be here today.

Hi-

I can't say whether the cramps will stop after the surgery; hopefully

it will help.

At 29 you have a potential 10 or more childbearing years, so your

doctor is acting in your best interest to save your fertility. Not

all doctors are so enlightened!

It also bears mentioning that a lot of women (I was one of them) no

longer experience premenstrual cramps after they've born a child.

Why, I have no idea. Not that you should run out and have a baby as a

cramp cure! :)

Hi,

You're NOT too old to have kids. You sound like you have a good doc. Surgery may

help with your cramps. Your cramps may be caused by something else. Your doc

might be able to give you more info after surgery. You need to rethink that hyst

might solve this problem. You can get a whole new set of problems from having a

hyst. Sometimes a anti-imflammatory can help with cramps. Ask your doc for one.

If you are a bleeder with fibroids you need to be checked for anemia. Just get

checked period for it. My friend had severe anemia without the heavy bleeding.

Be safe.

Hi

It's normal to get more than one fibroid and something like one in 5

women have fibroids. So it's horrible news, but you're not alone.

They are quite often described as if a week's pregnant size, but

some people have fibroids when they find they are pregant too.

It's good that your doctor didn't want to give you an unecessary

hysterectomy at 29. It shows he's thoughtful about what's best for

you

Although you want to fix symptoms that you are sick of having to

live with, the myomectomy should fix the problem(s) like these

cramps, by removing the fibroids, just as well as the hysterectomy,

without some problems associated with the hysterectomy you really

don't need at 29.

YOu are NOT too old for kids in any sense. Even if you don't think

you want any at 29, who knows what may happen in the future that

might change your mind. Life is full of surprises. Just having

fibroids for a year can change your views on things.

There are some other treatments available too, but the myomectomy is

a good choice for retaining fertility. One research paper once said

something like 30% of women might have fibroids again one day. 70%

may never get fibroids again after a myomectomy. Recovery

experiences vary from person to person. An abdominal myomectomy will

be similar to a hysterectomy to recover from, but without the

sadness of lost fertility. Keyhole surgery might be quicker to

recover from(?)

Ask your doctor for advice about the pain. They may be able to

prescribe/recommend something to help that. Lark published a

book about how diet might help relieve some symptoms and some people

look into things like yoga, in case they might help.

Hang in there!

Hi, sljcsu,

Many girls have bad cramps when they're young which may ease off as

you get older. Have you ever asked your doctor what you can do to

lessen the cramps? Even over-the-counter meds can help, such as

ibuprofen (Motrin) and naproxen (Alleve). Have you tried these?

However, there are a number of drugs on the market that should be

able to give you considerable relief.

It's also possible that following your myomectomy, your cramps will

lessen. Your uterus is quite big and during menstruation, the uterus

contracts to help control the bleeding. If there are fibroids in the

way when the uterus contracts, bad cramping can occur.

BTW, at 29 you certainly are not too old to have children! Many

women here are in their late 30s and early 40s and still expect to

have children. I can understand how tempting the idea of a

hysterectomy can be when you're had as much pain as you mention over

the years. But while a hysterectomy may solve the cramping problem,

it can bring a whole host of problems of its own and you may find

that you just traded one problem for another.

Do speak with your doctor about help with the cramps. With all the

medications and other options out there, no woman should have to put

up with tremendous pain every month.

Hi

I know that finding out you have fibroids can be a

shock but it's not the end of the world. I am 36 with

no children and had a myomectomy Jan 29. I suffered

heavy bleeding and severe cramops that got worse with

every period. I have had 2 periods since my Myo and

teh bleeding has lessened and so have the cramps.

Please do not rush into a hyster to stop cramps. And

29 is not to old to have children. I had planned to

try to get pregnant eary this year but couldn't

because of the broids. I will try at the end of the

year. While age might play a role my doc feels that

having removed the broids was the best way for me to

maintain fertility. After my last exam my doc feels I

have a good chance of conceiving and carrying to term

with little problem.

It sounds as if your doctor has your best interest in

mind. Most doc's rush to do a hyster. Please do all

of the research and listen to what the members of this

group have to say about their own experiences.

Best Wishes,
