Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Marsha AKA Marfla, I don't remember what it is you do for a living. Sorry but I just don't, remember I'm blond well most of the time! ..............My husband use to travel when we first got married many moons ago. We lived in Miami he was with Hertz Rent A Car. One of his duties was to take travel agents out on the town. Seeing the hotels and of course renting a car one of those package deals. I would go but after seeing the same shows over and over I stayed home...............Oh image it can be fun at times getting to see different places and I do love the beach's. Oh to put my toes in the sand again!.................Have a good week, Flora Quote
Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Marfla, sorry I answered under my husband e-mail address (_dbrand1423@..._ (mailto:dbrand1423@...) ) in case you are wondering. I was clearing his PLS mail because he also gets it at work...............Flora Quote
Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 i wish i could go skipping around on the beach. unfortunately we have all day activities and meetings schedule for entire trip up there. But at least the hotel is on the beach and i can look out window in the morning before heading down to those meetings. Really though this should be a fun time, all our Florida programs are coming with staff and clients. The clients will be putting on skits to reflect our companies values. Its a hoot. The clients are so proud being on stage performing even if it just saying a one line. Each program will win at least 250.00 no matter what their skits are. there are judges and programs will win anything from best of show, to best creativity, best reflecting values, etc...... Prizes range from 250.00 to one overall best of 500.00. Then the programs go back and can use that money however the clients want. usually they decide on a big party LOL. That's on Wednesday. Tomorrow is traveling, but a social gathering for everyone in afternoon. Thursday I am interviewing a candiatie to do what I do here in Florida. THe hope is to hire someone living in panhandle to cover that area and then I can cover central and south florida. Will cut down on my traveling, and allow me to better support individual programs. After the interview we have a corp. management team meeting (oh how fun those are NOT). Then I head home Thursday afternoon. So overall this trip will be fun, seeing all our programs/staff/clients in one place. Watching the clients experience staying in a nice hotel, showing off a bit on stage, etc.... Seeing the clients having fun, and in their glory is all worth the trip and a reminder of why I do what I do. Best wishes. marfla Be Blessed Re: away few days > Marfla, have a great week and don't go skipping around now!..Flora > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 Our agency provides services to the developmentally disabled and mentally ill. We provide group homes, supported living, adult day trainings, personal care, respite, companion, in home supports, etc......... Our clients live in the community, in homes just like you and I do. Many came out of institutions. We do what we can to involve them in their community, and to be as independent as possible. Plus offer training in skills needed. I don't do direct care any more but oversee our programs to assure we follow state and federal regulations. Plus provide staff training, program/system designs, and just about anything else that is needed to support the directors and programs here in Florida. marfla Be Blessed Re: away few days > Marsha AKA Marfla, I don't remember what it is you do for a living. > Sorry > but I just don't, > remember I'm blond well most of the time! ..............My husband use to > travel when we first got married many moons ago. Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Marsha (marfla), that's a great field and rewarding area to be in. Bless you for doing it. We need more of you to aid those that really need assistants. ..Flora Quote
Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Marfla, glad to hear things are going fine with your groups. Your clients are getting out of their usually surrounds so a change is good and different. Goodie bags are a great idea and a special treat to them I bet. Yes stairs are difficult for me to, going up is much easier then going down and I have to have hand rails or forget it. Every week or so we go over to my mother in laws condo and she lives on the second floor. I've counted each and every 15 steps it takes to get up. Going down I wish I could slide down the hand rail it be a heck of a lot faster. When I walk now I'm not using the leg muscles like I should I guess that's why they get tried quickly and if I over do they start to shake mostly my right leg. Most of us scuffle walk but I try to think heel to toe action mode and not look down but keep my head up. Hard to do! Sneakers are all I have other shoes don't support my ankles anymore. Sandals forget it I might as well go barefoot which I do inside the house. Ok, hope tomorrow goes well for you.................Flora Quote
Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Marfla, talking about our problems is very helpful. You are going though what we already have been though. Its not easy hold down a job and dealing with our health issues. I know how you feel about letting people know what you have. But in the long run its better then hiding it. I use to stumble while at work and I had to carry cash drawers to my office to balance out the girls cash drawers at the college bookstore. there where several times I almost ha Quote
Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 thanks. well it seems all the programs/clients/staff have made it. they had a great time tonight at the social (finger foods) then each program headed out to dinner with their own group. The competitions start tomorrow around 10a and the clients are so excited. Its so much fun watching how excited they are just being here. And I am very thankful the hotel wireless internet is working at least intermittemently.. Last time here no wireless only dial up, and they charge for using dial up. So I can get online afterall. of course during the day won't have time but can at least at night. we put together gift bags for each client tonight and they are going to be even more excited to see their name tag at a table, then a gift bag with their name, and all the goodies inside. including a T-shirt, and name tag to wear. the walking though today once here has been rough. lots of stairs. lots of walking. my feet and legs are hurting so much tonight. more than they have in a while. but im sure it's because i have done more walking up/down stairs, uneven surfaces, etc... then i have walked in a good while. had to go buy a pair of tennis shoes as all i brought were sandals which weren't providing enough support. oh well guess one can never have too many pairs of tennis shoes. hope all is well for each of you. marfla Be Blessed Re: away few days > Marsha (marfla), that's a great field and rewarding area to be in. Guest guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Thanks for the encouragement Last year I had to move from a second floor apt to a first floor. I couldn't manage the stairs anymore esp trying to carry luggage, groceries etc... just getting me up and down without falling was bad enough much less carrying something. fortunately i had great neighbors that would see me coming or i could call and say im pulling into parking lot, and someone would come over to carry up whatever it was I needed carried up. But being on the first floor has been such a blessing. One of our corp members is here this week and that person has MS. They don't tell anyone so only a very few of us know. They are having more problems and even told me this afternoon having trouble walking. I offered one of my extra crutches or cane but they aren't ready to use something. if did then ppl would know something is wrong. this person is high up in corp and really tries hiding it and really doesn't want ppl to know. sharing with me was because of my own issues and being told initially i had MS. I asked how doing and they started tearing up and said don't ask. but also said saw doctor yesterday and trying to deal with that as this person is progressing now after being stable for many years. I know how it is not wanting ppl to ask how doing as I too will often start crying. I was having problems and of course ppl know as I use the crutch. so my boss, our admin assist, and our budget manager tonight were trying to pamper me, making sure someone was next to me when walking to dinner or just thru hotel. i hate it but sometimes just can't hide the tripping, swaying, falling over, etc..... i have taken some extra meds but so far isn't helping. i wish could cut off legs, feet, and ankles tonight (just figure of speech here), but that is how bad they each hurt. and then at dinner i started shaking trying to hold the chop sticks, and/or spoon. had to scooted my drink up to me as i couldn't pick it up without shaking. i know its just because im tired and hurting. the person with MS asked me at dinner if i was in pain, of course i said no, and tried playing it off. funny how we play down issues even with those that have idea what going thru as they them self are going thru their own pains, difficulties etc.... im rambling, sorry. guess sorta on pity party tonight too. im sure by in the morning i will feel better and have better attitude. watching the clients will definitely help me forget what I am feeling. I am suppose to take pictures but the MS corp person suggested I let someone else use my camera to take the pics as it will require running around more, being up/down. and i can be the time keeper where you can just sit thru the skits. I know this good idea but i hate it as it feels giving in to something. then ppl wondering why i am not taking the pics as I have told everyone I would be. the " official " picture taker LOL. sorry im rambling even more. but guess need to express some things. tomorrow will be so much fun im sure and the clients will be in their glory. it's all worth it just to see that. later gator marfla Be Blessed Re: away few days > Marfla, glad to hear things are going fine with your groups. Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Great all is going so well, Marsha. That doesn't count the feet and leg situation. Be careful. Try not to over do it. You are doing wonderful work and I'm sure the " clients " would miss you if you had to take time off for rest. Connie Quote

Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Thanks Connie. Well the activities are completed. The prizes handed out. IT was so much fun watching the clients run on stage to collect their winning check. Everyone program won something, but they are all so proud of them selves. it's been a blast. for me again today the pain is high. i haven't experience this much pain in a while so sorta forgot about how bad it hurts. the standing is really rough on me, would think walking would be worse but ir eally believe the standing is worse. walking is difficult and hurts, but geesh why on earth would standing be so painful? i have meetings in the morning but thankfully nothing else scheduled this afternoon or evening. Since I use to live in the Jax area I may try to reach some old friends to see if available to meet up with. doubt possible since last minute. i don't know anyone here on the boards in the ville Beach area but if I had thought early would have been nice to find out and possibly say hi. maybe next time. we use this area at least once a year for meetings. for the events with the clients it was great. their smiles make you forget your own stuff for those few minutes. Our clients have so many challenges yet never complain. Makes me feel sometimes why am i complaining over my stuff. Clients are full of life, and i didn't hear one of them complaining about their own struggles. Helps put things into perceptive. marfla Be Blessed Re: away few days > Great all is going so well, Marsha. That doesn't count the feet and leg > situation. Be careful. Try not to over do it. Guest guest Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I didn't take the pics during their skits, as I ended up being the time keeper. So i was able to sit thru all that. I did take the pics of them receiving their awards but even then I was able to sit at a front table. Just hope the pics come out ok. I can of course do some editing when i get home on those not so perferct Be Blessed Re: away few days > > In a message dated 2/28/2006 10:34:52 P.M.
