Hi Sharon

I'm also in the UK. Are you already in the Smartgroups UK and

Ireland fibroid forum? We may have chatted there, if so. If not,

that's another good one to join. My own answers to your

questons are posted there, especially in a 'myo diary' thread,

where I am 'Cat'.

One book with a UK bias, for once, is 'Coping with Fibroids'. It's

got a black and white cover and as well as Amazon, there are

copies in some health food shops.

Check out the NHS Direct and BUPA websites as many docors

work for both BUPA and the NHS and you may find your surgeon

listed on the BUPA site.

You may find that the advice given in American books on finding

out a surgeon's myo experiences and so forth is next to

impossible in the UK. The best way to do it is to talk directly to

your surgeon and hope that they are honest with you. Compare

notes with other women in your area about who they had and

where they went. I suppose it's not always easy the world over.

Don't worry unduly about sensational news stories in local and

national papers. When in hospital, do ask questions about

anything that concerns you or anything you need though.

I didn't have shrinking drugs myself and my symptoms weren't

as bad.
