hyst vs myo & bleeding

The results of my extensive blood tests came back, and I passed

everything with flying colors. The only thing the hematologist could

think of that caused my past bleeding problems is something wrong

with the lining of my blood vessels. So I'm off to another specialist

to try to confirm that (something called Ehlers Danlos syndrome--

anyone on the list have that?), but in the meantime I'm starting to

get used to the idea of a hysterectomy as a better option than myo.

The main advantage would be that there's significantly less bleeding

with a hyst. I'm not planning on having any more kids, and a hyst

would prevent needing any more fibroid surgery in the future.

The hematologist (an OB/GYN) will refer me to another doctor for a

second opinion on hyst vs. myo, once results are back from the next

round of testing. The hematologist recommended hyst. My regular gyn

originally recommended a myo, but then sent me off for the blood

tests, and I haven't spoken with him about the results yet.

So am I overlooking reasons for aiming for myo over hyst? It seems so

radical to treat a benign (if thoroughly obnoxious) tumor by having

my uterus removed.

Liz,

Hysterectomy is radical treatment for what is usually

a benign tumor. If you have a myo no matter what your

age, it doesn't mean you will have to have more

surgery down the road. If other fibroids do happen to

invade your uterus again they may not give you any

trouble whats-so-ever and not require doing anything

about them.

We keep forgetting what a permenant solution a

hysterectomy is. You can never go back. We have seen

the information about how it effects your sex life,

and how they are finding the effects it has on your

heart(women who have had a hysterectomy are more

likely to have heart problems).

Your uterus is healthy...it's the fibroids that

aren't. Before we chose we need to really educate

ourselves.

Good Luck,

Diane
