Guest guest
Hi everyone, anybody know the cite to the study or studies that show that heart health is negatively impacted by even sub-total hysterectomy, eg even if the ovaries are left in there is still a negative impact on heart health when the uterus alone is removed? I would like to show it to my young female cardiologist who has a special interest in women's health. A small irregularity showed up on my pre-op EKG in December, almost causing my surgery to be postponed. I found myself meeting with this young woman cardio who was able to confirm that this irregularity would have no impact on surgery or anesthesia, and scheduled me for an echocardiogram after the surgery to make sure there was nothing significant going on. Which was just confirmed -- nothing wrong at all. Anyway, I asked her if she had heard of studies showing that even with ovaries intact there was negative impact on heart health after removing the uterus. She said " no, that's very interesting. " She also said there are many conflicting studies, not all well-known in the medical community, on whether the decline in heart health among women around the age of menopause is really hormone-related or is just age- related. She doesn't believe we really know enough to be sure yet. This is not the non-mainstream opinion. Of course, the fact that an opinion is widely accepted doesn't mean it's right -- witness the widespread assumption that synthetic hormones after menopause were beneficial for heart health -- now shown not to be true.
