Hi Sunny

I had to laugh at your bit about before and after pictures (in the

shadow vs. in the light), as it exactly sums up how it really is pre

and post op.! Once it's over, the relief is SOOO great, you think,

what was all the fuss about, all the nights I spent crying, worrying,

desparing....I haven't felt this optimistic in my entire life. I

really do feel like I've died and was born again -- I'm a new woman,

no exaggeration, so those of you with ops. coming up, just rejoice on

the fact that your crossing from darkness into light is just round

the corner!

I agree about Throat Losenges (I had forgotten to mention them) - I

did use those a lot to stop myself from coughing post-op. Anything to

lubricate your throat will be a great relief, believe me!

Slippers - didn't mention those as I thought everybody took those

anyway. For walking/exercsing outside your room, slippers are a must.

Robes/night gowns - also didn't mention as I thought it was obvious,

but hospital gowns have the back all open. I had to walk from my room

to right in front of the theatre, instead of being wheeled. You don't

want to make a show of yourself by showing your bare bum to all the

hospital staff as you walk down the corridor! Also useful after you

change to your own nightie later on and you're receiving visitors. So

you're right - that's another must pack!

Clothes during and post - I wore nighties (hospital gowns first 3

days, then my own nightie afterwards) during hospital stay, and am

wearing normal clothes at home now, but nothing constricting my

tummy, as it does hurt a bit even to wear tights(stockings in US).

Forget jeans for the next few months! I couldn't find any overalls

(I did look for them having read the suggestion of someone in this

group!), but I think it's a great idea!

Thanks for your additions Sunny. I hope the tips help those who are

about to have surgery in the next few days/weeks, and, ladies, do

remember what I said - the fear is only in your mind, and you will be

overjoyed and won't stop smiling when you see your flat stomach

already on day 1! I was! Good Luck to all. I will be thinking of you

all! :-)

to add to the " take to the hospital " list.
