Hi, Carla- Thanks for that informative post. " Duola " ??? (and where in the world does that name come from... " duele " is " hurts " in Spanish!- I think I spelled that right!) Anyway, I had never heard that term! But whatever they are- a Leg/foot massage?!?! I'll take one! Anyone used one of these they can recommend in N. CA? But today this word is in reference to someone who assists a woman during labor and provides support to her, the infant, and the family after childbirth. http://www.quinion.com/words/turnsofphrase/tp-dou1.htm You may surprise these folks by asking for their assistance with surgery and not childbirth -- but I honestly don't think a request of this sort would be terribly out of line at all. Their experience with childbirth and assisting women in the hospital (and at home, afterwards) generally exceeds what the typical spouse/partner/best friend might be able to do for you during your time in the hospital. Learn more here: Doulas of North America http://www.dona.org/ Doula Network http://doulanetwork.com/ Doula World http://www.doulaworld.com/ Tons of links online that would lead you to a doula in your own region of the world....
