Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to this group, and have been reading past messages. I am also reading the fibroid book by the UCLA docs (I have the book at home and don't remember the title). I was diagnosed with fibroids about 2 years ago. My nurse practioner found them during my annual exam. I was referred to a specialist who did numerous ultra sounds and confirmed I have fibroids. I really wasn't in much discomfort until about a month ago, mainly pelvic and lower back pain. I exercise regulary, which seems to help. I think what brought the symptoms on was having a period after not having one for 14 months! I thought I was menopausal, but I guess I was wrong. I haved an appointment this afternoon with the specialist. I know he will reccommend surgury. Is there anyone out there as old as me who was just diagnosed? I have 2 children and have never had any menstrual problems. Sheila
Guest guest
To Sheila, Hi, and welcome to the group. I am 51, and although i found out about a fibroid a couple of years ago, it's only recently that the bleeding got bad enough for me to seek treatment. I am also peri-menopausal with alot of those symptoms...night sweats dry skin insomnia fuzzy thinking.I have 3 submucousal fibroids and am offered only hysterectomy as an option as they are too large to be resected. So far I am holding out, taking hormones to help with the bleeding, I am also hoping to get a new drug that promises to shrink the fibroids and reduce the bleeding. There is a ton of great helpful stuff on this site and the NUFF site. Good luck and keep in touch diane 53 and just now having problems I was diagnosed with fibroids about 2 years ago. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Welcome! I'm 53 too and perimenopausal. If you've used HRT it's possible you've had fibroids for awhile and the HRT has stimulated growth. There's lot of information here about fibroid options. Surgery isn't always necessary. Let us know what the doc says. Gerri > Hi, > I'm new to this group, and have been reading past messages. Guest guest
Hi, I saw my doc yesterday. He was concerned due to the fact that I was menopausal and had bleeding and was experiencing discomfort. His concerns were uterine cancer, or scarcoma tumors, which on an ultrasound can look like tumors. They are very fast growing. After an ultrasound and exam, my fibroids hadn't grown much from the last exam a year ago. He thinks maybe the fibroids are breaking down, thus the bleeding and discomfort. He took a endometrial biopsy and I am scheduled for a MRI on Friday to make sure everything is OK. Thanks for the concern. Sheila I'm 53 too and perimenopausal.
