I have seen mention of taurine supplementation elsewhere. This is an amino

acid yes? Where do I get it, what is the dosage, what do I need to know

about giving it?

He has a very restricted diet. He eats chicken, pork, beef (limited),

tomatoes, potatoes, peppers (usually green - his preference), sometimes

cucumber, apples, bananas, grapes, & sometimes peaches. Grain free dairy

free occasional soy which seems fine but have been restricting that on

general principle. No preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial colors.

I give him his supplements in apple juice.

Thoughts?

What fruits & veggies DON'T have phenol or are very low?

Thank you.

-Sara.

Dear Sara,

I just wanted to mention that high phenol food s caused insomnia for both of

my ASD boys. Also citrus(orange, tomatoes, pinapple) gave the both of them

acid reflux. This would cause night waking they would jerk in their sleep.

Diet changes and supplementing with lots of magnisum and Taurine made all

the difference in the world.

Bless you and your family in this difficult time..

Hi Sara, sounds like most of the fruits and veggies you feed him are high

phenol. Phenols are in all fruits and veggies. The ones that really caused

problems for my boys are the brightly colored ones (apples,

peaches,apricots,grapes,rainsins, berries,cherries,green

peppers, tomatoes, spinach) The fruits my kids can tolerate are pears, bannanas,

mangos. The veggies they can eat are carrots, green beans, califlower, onion,

brocholi potatoes. Also nuts and seeds are high in phenols. I would suggest

eliminating apples and and tomatoes/citrus right away if nothing else. The

taurine is a sulfer amino acid it helps with the phenol sulfer tranfer

processing. I order it from from kirkman labs and I my sons 500 mg twice a day.

My youngest is 4yrs. and 42lbs. my oldest is 5yrs. 6months and 44lbs. Hope this

helps you ..

I personally would get rid of the bananas, the grapes, the apples and definitely

the apple juice.

My son could not handle any of those until after 2 years on enzymes.

I bought Taurine from my local health food store. I started at 250 mg

per day and increased to 500 mg for a while.

My phenol page has info about phenols. There are several categories

of phenols [salicylates, amines, luteins, etc]. I have links to

several pages giving the relative content of various phenols in foods.
