Saturday we take my 6 yo ADD/DIS/CAPD to a DAN! doctor at an outreach

clinic an hour from our home. Now that I have found someone to help

us with her I'm getting nervous. What if the doctor sees her and

asks why are we brining her to see him. When I was filling out the

intake questionnaire last night there were few things that applied to

her. Of course the questionnaire was designed for AS kids. For

those of you who have kids with ADD/DIS and have seen a DAN! doctor,

what has been your experience? Were they able to help? What type of

treatments or progress did you see? Thanks.

Ann,

I am so glad you are asking this question! Honestly, I am in the

same boat. I'm left wondering if I should make an appointment, and

if I do, will it be appropriate for my ADD-I child. So I will be

very interested to see what posters say!!!

My child was only ever officially diagnosed as ADHD, CAPD, and while

on tons of RX drugs as Bipolar. (unofficially she also had sensory

problems, sleep problems, learning problems). She began seeing DAN!

doctors at the age of 16, now at 18 she is no longer carrying the

symptoms of any of those diagnoses. I only wish I had known what to

do when she was first dx'd ADHD & CAPD at the age of 12!! She would

have never ended up on the RX drugs and the resulting problems from

them. There are things you can do yourself by following the posts &

files on this and some other lists but DAN! (or other doctors) can

run tests, dispense any needed drugs (thyroid, allergy, etc.) and

monitor your child.

Ann,

There are some DAN doctors in Florida and they have a website. www.gnd.com,

or www.gnd.org. You are lucky I wish I could take my son to a DAN doctor.

Good Luck!!
