What devastating news to get...Im so sorry hon. On the more positive

side Ive heard that alot of people have ver successful results after

having back surgery.

I hope that it doesnt come down to that but if it does we all have

you in our thoughts..please know that your dr is a very skilled

surgeon and you arent going to be his first patient :)

My thought are with you tonight Dawn and I hope you have found some

peace and relief so that you can rest easier tonight.

Much love

Donna,

Thanks so much for your love and concern. I thought after getting so tired and dizzy before that I would go right to sleep, but obviously I slept for an hour or so, and I am now back up, because of the pain! I think I was in shock when he mentioned surgery today, because it was totally unexpected and was told last year that the disc was not herniated enough to have surgery on! Well I guess that is not the facts any longer. I am also terrified by the thought of the RSD spreading throughout the body, especially the abdomen. My doctor is so honest with both me and my Mom that it is sometimes very scary for me. When Mom asked about the RSD spreading, he basically said that it could happen, but he also said he feels it is a rare occurrence in surgery, unless you do not take all precautions necessary! I will make sure that is done if need be and also know the doctor has been doing these types of surgeries for 30 years! This definitely

makes me feel better, because he is experienced in his profession. Well want to answer at least one more email and starting to feel loopy again! Take Care and Please Know that you and your Family are always in my Thoughts!!! LOL and Best Wishes Always and Forever!!!

Dawn,

Before you go ahead with the surgery, can I ask if you've considered acupuncture?

Several years ago, my husband was told the same thing. He had several herniated discs and a ruptured disk in his lumbar spine that his Dr. felt had to repaired surgically. I've been told the same thing.

My husband decided to try acupuncture. Within 3 weeks, he had no back pain at all. He is, of course, careful about lifting things, etc. (always wears a brace for heavy lifting), but he did not need to have surgery.

Me, I have RSD. I tried the acupuncture, it didn't help AS MUCH. It did allow me a lot more movement, and I still haven't had surgery, as the pain is still within a bearable level for me. I've got a couple of other things going on that cause back/leg/hip pain, too, so when the time comes, I am going to try acupuncture again before going the surgical route.

It works for some, and may be worth a try.

Hugs,

Jo

Its great that your dr at least knows the precautions to take in

order to make sure that he makes every effort not to have it spread.

Not everyone is as fortunate.

Todays advances in medicine will assure that you dont have as many

problems as patients did years ago when they had the same surgery. As

frightening as it may seem Im sure that regardless of the outcome you

will be fine in the end and also in alot less pain than you currently

are.

Keep us posted. I hope that you woke up today feeling better than you

did last night.

Hugs

Donna
