Guest guest Posted December 27, 2006 Report Posted December 27, 2006 Hi Donna, I am not yet on the soft foods part, but how did you survive the full liquids part? I had surgery on the 19th and I can hardly stomach one more soup or broth. Any ideas? On my soft food plan they have all previous things like applesauce, yogurt etc and then Soft scrambled eggs, thin sliced deli meat, avocado, tuna, lf cheese, saltines fish, finely shredded moist chicken. I would think the canned chicken with a little lf mayo and some of the broth might work. donna djcamp1@...> wrote: for those on soft foods part of recent surgury,, what are you eating.. i,m tired of same old. seems has i,m doing same old stuff. lol.. any ideas to share ? thxs in advance donna __________________________________________________ Quote
Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I pretty much skipped the soft stages. I would just chew my food really well. I couldn't do eggs. Always made me sick. One can only have so much oatmeal. And I don't like cottage cheese. That really only left yogurt. So, I bought the pre cooked chicken in the deli meat section & just chewed it really well. It was super moist. Sorry I can't be of more help! Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I could not wait to get to meats. I ate cottage cheese with peaches, lunch meats, cheeses, etc... I loved chicken when I was able to get to it. Woodard alittleisenough@...> wrote: I pretty much skipped the soft stages. I would just chew my food really well. I couldn't do eggs. Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 , I couldn't handle the broth and jello's at all, for my liquid diet, I ended up drinking ONLY water for 1 1/2 wks. I just couldn't do anything else. I was So looking forward to the soft diet by the time I was able to. I couldn't do the eggs and I couldn't handle canned chicken for a few months believe it or not. Now I eat it a couple of times a week. My canned chicken, I buy tyson and add avocado, sliced cherry tomatoes, table blend Mrs. Dash, and a touch of mayo and mustard. I think take a rice cake and spread a thin layer of whipped cream cheese and put my chicken mix on top, YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it and its healthy. Not sure how soon you will be able to enjoy this recipie. Sometimes you just have to try a little bit at a time and decide what works and what you have to hold off on. Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 If you have a super wal mart in your area, they have a drinkable yogurt smoothie made by blue bunny that is really good. It has 13 grams of protein, 5 grams of carbs & sugar and 130 calories. I would drink that in the morning for breakfast/ It's really good they have a blackberry and strawberry. ~ in CA > > for those on soft foods part of recent surgury,, what are you eating.. > > i,m tired of same old. seems has i,m doing same old stuff. lol.. any > > ideas to share ? thxs in advance donna > > > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Donna, I bought the low carb Smart Ones Frozen dinners until I could figure out how to eat for my new lifestyle. The meats were really tender, so I was able to get protien. I couldn't finish a whole one, but it satisfied me. Just a thought. Quote
Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I get the healthy choice meals, and just eat the meat portion and if I am still hungry some of the veggies.....I never touch that dessert crap. Guest guest Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 I still have rain checks for them Mike. They work out to $.91 each for the 5-9oz ones. Now that's a deal! > > I get the healthy choice meals, and just eat the meat portion and if I am > still hungry some of the veggies.....I never touch that dessert crap. > > Mike T > > Re: soft foods > > > > Donna, I bought the low carb Smart Ones Frozen dinners until I could > > figure out how to eat for my new lifestyle. Guest guest Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Once past the pureed stage, I was told that nothing is " off limits " as long as it is tolerated. The nutritionist suggests trying a small bite of something chewed very well (at home just in case) and seeing how it sits. If it doesn't, she says to try again a few days later. Also just do one new thing at a time so you'll know exactly what caused the problem if you have one. I've found the biggest issue early on is remembering to thoroughly chew everything. It's very easy to forget to do that. If you forget, you'll know it and it doesn't take many times before you remember. The only problems I've had so far I've been able to attribute to swallowing something too large to pass through the stoma. for > those on soft foods part of recent surgury,, what are you eating.. > > i,m tired of same old. seems has i,m doing same old stuff. lol.. > any > > ideas to share ? thxs in advance donna > > > > > > > > > > > > __________________________________________________ > > Quote
Guest guest Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Do either one of you Mike T and Mike in GR know approximately how many ounces of protein are in one of those? I found the Smart Ones typically has at least 2oz of protien...and they are really tasty. > Chicken alfredo. The bigger ones have broccoli in them too. Guest guest Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 It depends on the size. Healthy Choice has something like 3-4 types of meals. The ones I eat are 5-9oz and usually have 13-20g of protein which isn't much but then they're only 200-250 calories too. I just try to get 30g+ in other meals. Healthy Choice's website is down until the new year. I'll get you links to the ones I bought for 10 for $10 get 11th free at Meijer. My surgeons office was big into getting at least 15g a meal to get nearly 50g a day. I try to keep my protein at/above 100g a day with my workouts.
