Guest guest Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 People say I'm full of hot air....does that help? LOL I remember YEARS ago when it snowed, we went to school (.)<<-- thats a period. IF, and a big IF we missed a day during the week, we went a half a day on Saturday. Teachers didn't take a day off every other week for a work day either. Nowadays, if one tiny flake falls they close schools and the kids end up going to school way into June. We always started AFTER Labor Day and ALWAYS got out in May until about my junior year in high school, I ended up graduating on the 8th of June (YEARS ago mind you). I will drive in snow, but I will NOT drive in ice. If you have bad weather to send this way (Virginia), PLEASE send 2 feet of snow, anything less or anything a mess KEEP IT !!!! LOL Stay warm. Guest guest Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Folks in the office here are saying that the ice will stop soon. It's very windy out too. They seem to be saying that it will start to snow and that there will be 6+ inches before the evening. Yeah that snow on top of the ice is going to help driving out a whole lot. > > > > Well it's official, all the major schools in the metro area are closed. > > I didn't see any real snow outside though, maybe those dopes got it > > wrong at the weather station? Guest guest Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I got lucky....the bad weather didn't make it as far east as Howell. I did have what looked like itty bitty hail coming down on me this morning and the trees were coated with ice. Thank goodness the roads weren't icy. I really needed to go to work today. I already miss the warmish weather. I was walking about 3 miles a day. It will be a challenge to get in my exercise now. in MI > > Well it's official, all the major schools in the metro area are closed. > I didn't see any real snow outside though, maybe those dopes got it > wrong at the weather station? Guest guest Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Hi Mike, I saw where you guys were having ice storms and there was a wide loss of electricity. I sure hope that doesnt include you! Hugs, . Mike websculpt@...> wrote: Well it's official, all the major schools in the metro area are closed. I didn't see any real snow outside though, maybe those dopes got it wrong at the weather station? So I pack up my gym back and head outside. It's raining ice. Well that's just perfect! I scrape the windows of the van off. No biggy. I go to hit the windshield and nothing happens really. I hold the scrapper horizontally to make cuts in the ice first then to scrape it. That helps only a little. Still really nothing. Now I'm sitting here, very late, the car is warming up and I wait. I can see that warming the car up for 15-30 minutes is going to be part of the morning now. Interesting thing is it was 65F earlier this week. None of this has much to do with wls other than the fact that, evidentally, the world goes on and the weather still sucks even nearly a year after wls. Joy! I can't wait to see how things are out on the " express " way into work. Mike in GR (send heat please) --------------------------------- Check out the all-new Yahoo! Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 , I love walking in the winter. I'm asking for a new mask for Christmas (http://tinyurl.com/vqy3j ) and I've got some new waterproof Rockport boots coming soon. If you'd like advice on walking in the winter I can help. Most of my walking is urban which means sometimes it's a bit clearer although sporadically than rural areas. I think I need a parka too but the leather coat would work with a sweater, oxford and t-shirt on underneath I suppose. Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Nope. I live downtown in the second largest city so usually am pretty cool. I say usually because hey there's only so much you can do against this sort of thing and I do live in an area that is all old houses so maybe that's a factor. That being said I think the longest I've been without power is a day and a half. Usually I can go to my parents who live very close unless they don't have power too. That's really rare. They seem to lose power more than I do. Also, we seem to lose power during light winds more often than major ice and snow, etc. So weird. It can get damned cold very fast with no heat though. Losing power even in this last storm would have gotten cold fast but nothing that a sweater, blankets and sweats couldn't deal with. When it's below 10F you start to worry about your plumbing freezing if the power is out more than a day. Being downtown we seem to get faster fix times from the power company too. Well it's official, all the major schools in the metro area are closed. > I didn't see any real snow outside though, maybe those dopes got it > wrong at the weather station? Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Hi Mike, The thing I worry about the most is stepping on something slippery and falling on my @ss. I've broken/sprained my foot twice in the last few years: once by missing a step on the stairs and once by stepping on the edge of a pallet and slipping off of it. Face it, I'm a real clutz. I also slipped on ice back in Texas and cracked my tailbone. Talk about uncomfortable and a little embarassing. I just have a thing about falling. Going down stairs bothers me more than going up. I walked 3 miles the other day when it was 37F out and didn't even wear a coat. I get hot very easily and never wear anything heavier than a fleece jacket. I imagine that will change soon so I might need some advice. I do have a men's barn coat which might work OK for this winter. I'll have to find it though. Hopefully next winter it will be WAY too big. And no oh so subtle digs about east Michigan. I'm in Howell and we get it a little more than the Detroit area. But we do miss out on the lake effect snow. in MI > > > > > > Well it's official, all the major schools in the metro area are > closed. > > > I didn't see any real snow outside though, maybe those dopes got > it > > > wrong at the weather station? Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Yup...hit the malls. I think I'm going to do that with my kids this winter especially when the weather is bad. Gosh I just don't know how I'm going to get my 14 year old daughter to go to the mall with me though. Cha right. Guest guest Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Nah I was joking. She wouldn't care who takes her to the mall so long as she gets there. She doesn't even mind me " shopping " with her. I did get lectured last time though that since we didn't spend any money it was a horrible experience. She did ask me to go into one shop to look for something like a shirt or something I don't remember what but I refused. I told her that never, ever, ever, would she and I be in that store at the same time. She needed to just accept that now. It was, of course, 's Secret.
