Guest guest Posted January 21, 2005 Report Posted January 21, 2005 Gotta say, I agree with your son, Janie! 23 is my favorite number due to it's my favorite ball player's number. That would be Ryne Sandberg and he's finally been voted into the Hall of Fame this year too. SO I must say It is a very special year! I wish your son a very Happy Birthday! (My birthday comes 3 days after his too. LOL) Happy 23! in Va. Thanks Sim!!! The very same back to you. ) My son told me that this was to be his VERY special year. Why? Because he is turning 23 on Jan. 23rd. 23 on 23!! We should all have such a special year!! Guest guest Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 Hi Elaine, What a horrible couple of days. I don't know how you do it. If you ask me (and nobody has :-) I think your next plan of action is great: get help for yourself and a plan in place for the next time this happens to you! It sounds as though it has already happened too many times. By all means take care of yourself. I hope you can take a few days off from grandkids as well as kids and take some deep breaths, have a good cup of coffee, or whatever it is you enjoy. Here's sending lots of wishes for peace back to you!!! Elaine I don't want to tell you what to do, but seems to me you keep rescuing your daughter on behalf of your grand. This is not going to work or get your daughter any better. Calling 911 and then shielding grand from it would have been better. I would have called 911, then left her house w/grand. Something drastic has to be done in order for your daughter to start on the road to recovery. There's always going to be a " next time " . I would have put my foot down THIS and final time. She belongs in a hospital. I feel for your grand, but she has you to take care of her. I wish you a better new year. DebbieL Quote
Guest guest Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 Elaine, Good that you have a plan. Perhaps you can have a backup plan for someone to watch grand so she doesn't have to be subjected to this. Not a way for her to live! You are a good mom!!! The answers are easy when there is no grandchild involved. Becomes trickier when kids are involved. Keep us posted, Let us know what happens. Peace in 2006! Guest guest Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Elaine I am so sorry to hear that your daughter seems to be in another downward spiral. For your own sake, please take some action on setting your boundaries. I hope you did nothing to locate her dog when she demanded that you do and that you did not respond to her demanding the return of your grand and bringing daughter food. She is acting like a spoiled brat again. Are you still goig to weekly counseling sessions? My daughter's husband will be getting out of the slammer on the 17th of this month so we will see what type of emotional crap I'll be involved in. Hopefully, I will maintain my boundaries. I have been good, I make NO negative comments about him. I did tell my daughter last week during a conversation that I have resigned myself to her choices in men and if these are the types she wants in her life, well bottom line, it is her choice and her life. And quite honestly, that is really how I feel. I would have wanted to see her with a nice, hardworking guy obviously with no substance abuse problems and no prison record(silly me), but if this is what she chooses, this IS what she chooses. I toild her I cannot live her life, only my own. The boys are getting older and more mature by the day. THey seem to have a very good idea of what is good, wholesome, etc. Their comments sometimes amaze me. So I feel confident this is much hope for thema nd their futures. I hope I am correct. Guest guest Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 Hi Jean, I just wanted to tell you how I respect the way you've worked through so much with your daughter. She's had you emotionally at her mercy for so long, and it's been good for me to see how you've become stronger by somewhat accepting her " disorder " , setting your boundaries, and remaining alert to what could be ahead of you. I must also say your style of writing and choice of words often gives me a chuckle. Case in point -- your " silly me " when referring to your preference your daughter choose men without prison records. I firmly believe a sense of humor can keep us sane during life's trials. Guest guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Jean, I think this is a big step for you, accepting the choices your daughter makes in men. It's not easy we all want what's best for our children, but I know I am realizing everyday that mine has to go through her own experiences with limited input from me. So far she is making good choices, she is starting classes at our community college on Monday. I am so proud of her!!! This is a big step and she seems excited. I never thought we would be in this place now, I know a huge part of our success has been my participation with this group. It has given me such strength. You have been a big part of that Jean. I have learned a new technique being used for bi-polar disorder, alcoholism, eating disorders, and probably some other issues as well. It is called neuro-feedback. Anyone hear of it. I find it fascinating, my daughter and I went to a psychologist in Arizona using it as part of a research program. He is a friend of my sister's. He explained the process of stimulating electrical components of the brain so they make connections better. (Short summary!) I don't have the website address with me here at work but I will send it out to all of you. We are going to give it a try, the guru is here in Orlando where we live. should be interesting. Has anyone heard or read of it? cascorsam@... wrote: Elaine I am so sorry to hear that your daughter seems to be in another downward spiral. (Short summary!) Elaine, Kudos to you and the progress you are making with your daughter. I am so glad for you that things are working out. I'm happy too that maybe some of us have made a difference for you in your dealings with your daughter. I get great comfort in hearing success stories. Then there are others that are not so lucky. A dear, dear old friend of mine, from high school, sent me an email the other day. She lost her 18 year old daughter to a heroin overdose on Dec. 30. I'm beside myself with grief for her. I had been keeping in touch with her, helping her with coping skills, and she says a lot of them were working, she just couldn't get her daughter away from the bad influences of the low life people she was hanging with. She did her best. I feel so bad I couldn't help her more. DebbieL Quote
