Guest guest
Hi My daughter Chelsea also had Atypical/plantaris. Also missed by a good Ponseti doctor. Chelsea had bilateral clubfoot, but only one was atypical. She was treated with the Ponseti method from 1 week old. The normal clubfoot responded very well to the Ponseti method - casting, tenotomy and the Markell shoes, however the atypical (left) foot was shorter, fatter, and there was a crease in the sole of her foot. The big toe on her left foot also curled upwards. Her left foot stayed in the cast, but it wouldn't stay in the Markell shoes. Her left foot had a strong tendency to relapse. She went through several sets of serial casts. Finally, when the brace became available, we started using that and that saved her - it was the first time I didn't have to wake up several times a night to put her shoe back on. She had a second double tenotomy after she turned 1, and a three week cast, and she has been in the brace since then. Dr. Ponseti has the most experience treating atypical clubfeet at this time. I would definitely suggest that you contact him. The second tenotomy and the shoes really did the trick. Guest guest
I agree. You should contact Dr. Ponseti. If it wasn't for this group I wouldn't have known better. I'm glad I did. We are seeing him on Monday. Ava's R foot is Atypical. The treatment is much different then treating normal CF. He has spent the last two years developing the treatment for this. It hasn't yet gone to print in the orthopaedic journal so I don't know if many of the Ponseti certified docs are aware yet. I would definitly seek his opinion. I can't say we had much trouble so far with the Markell shoes but like mentioned before they do slip on the Atypical foot. I think she will need another tenontomy on that foot. The heel doesn't seem like its down. Well see soon enough. I just could kick myself to have to put her through this again. I do have a good feeling that it will work for her this time and be alot less painful.
