Guest guest
Phyllis, I am so sorry for what you are going thru! It really is unfair. My 1st suggestion is you HAVE to get a new Dr.! He is pathetic......My 2nd suggestion is to email me privately if you'd like. I can help you find another Dr. and can also be very empathetic to what you are going thru as I am in a very similar situation. Take Care, Jill JillLarion@... new member Hi everyone, I am new to this group and was diagnosed with FMS 4 years ago. However, the past 6 months have been the worst ever. My hips and legs are in severe pain and anytime I hold my 11 month old nephew (who is very tiny) my right arm ends up hurting severely for weeks. I have also recently started having severe migraines that last up to a week. It has not been fun. I also have 2 autistic boys and a husband that is very unsupportive and not only unhelpful, but he pretty much makes everything worse. My stress level is through the roof. I went to see a new rheumatologist this week and he started asking me about my childhood and my marriage and said I was depressed and prescribed Trazidone. I asked about Lyrica and he pretty much shook his head and said that only helps with the pain and wouldnt prescrib it. He pretty much gave me nothing for the pain, just said that if I get some sleep with the trazadone the pain will get better. His resident suggested possibly water therapy but he shot that down too saying try the trazadone first. I was able to get a handicapp parking sticker, but can not apply for disability. For the past 13 years I have been a stay at home mom, doing odd jobs from home (in home daycare for most of the time and selling avon). None of it comes close to helping with the bills (especially with two autistic kids) but working outside the home is impossible for me. The number one reason I am stuck in my marriage is I have no way to support myself and the kids (even with support from him). I am mostly just looking for a supportive group to discuss and vent with. Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, I would 2nd the person that said to find a new Dr. You need one that will support you. I started going to an Internist Dr several years ago. When my syptoms started to flare up, he suggested a rhuematologist. The rhue... ran a bunch of tests and I followed up with the rhue. She basically said that it wasn't arthritis and that my Internist was doing a good job with the meds he had me on. What I'm getting at is you really need to find a Dr willing to listen to you and to be able to try different med/options. As far as an unsupportive hubby. I was married to one of those. It is a difficult situation to be in. I can offer a listening ear and cyber hugs. Hope you can get on the right track with the pain. Guest guest
I hope this is helpful to you as for applying for disability you said you cant leave your hubby cause you can not support your self please apply for SSI for your 2 boys first They will get it very fast with being atustic my son has asburgers which is a mild form of atusim. once they are on SSI they will automaticly get a state medical card (some states you have to go in and apply but every child on SSI gets a state card). to apply all you have to do is call 18007721213 and have your kids social security numbers and birth dates and information to prove who you are. they set up an appt at a time to call you on the phone they ask a bunch of questions and they send papers in the mail to get there records it is very easy to apply. after they are approved if you decided to leave your hubby then you call social security to tell them and they raise the checks to an amount that does not count your hubbys income. once you are out of the house you can then apply for SSI for your self. Guest guest
Sharon, She's been a stay-at-home-mom for 13 years....she has to have worked at least 4 years full time out of the last 10. Also, with SSI no one in the home can make over around $800/mo (depending on the state). Also, you can't have anything worth over $3,000. Including cars, stocks and bonds, etc. Does not include your home though. I have spent the last 6 months trying to figure this out since I'm in a similar situation........please tell me if I'm missing something! I even asked one of the social security ladies I talked with if basically SAHM's were " screwed " if they became disabled while taking care of their children. She said, " Yes " . Guest guest
Phyllis, I would like to welcome you to the group. I would also like to tell you that I am pretty new here also and venting is something that we all do. I know how it feels to hurt when you hold a baby. When my grandson was a baby I couldn't hold him either, it made my pain even worse and I got to the point that I just couldn't hold him at all and that just about killed me. I have learned how long I can hold him and when to put him down. Now he is old enough that he doesn't want to be held all the time and he has also learned that when he wants me to hold him that I am going to be sitting down and he sits on my lap. As far as your husband goes, I have the same problem. My husband and kids are not helpful at all. As a matter of fact I have been on strike for a week now. I don't cook or clean at all. The only laundry that I do is my own and I have even taken 6 bath towels and that is what I use, when they get dirty I will wash them only. Needless to say my house is a disaster and I also run a business out of my home so I just meet my customers elsewhere to give them their products. I don't take anything from the doctors anymore because everything they gave me made me really tired all the time and I take care of my grandson and my great-nephew during the week and I can't be tired all the time. I take all natural products that actually give me energy because if I just sit all day that makes the pain worse. I do have times that all I can do is sit but then I live on my heating pad and massager. I don't understand why your doctor wouldn't give you the Lyrica or the therapy. I went through therapy twice and the second time they put me in the heated pool and boy did that help out. The only thing I can say is see if you can be referred to a different doctor and see if that helps. I know I have been to several doctors about this and have been told different things by each doctor. That's all I can say. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time with the pain, I know how it can be, I'm sure everyone in this group knows how you feel. I hope you get to feeling better. > > Hi everyone, > > I am new to this group and was diagnosed with FMS 4 years ago. > However, the past 6 months have been the worst ever. Hi, Phyllis, and welcome to the best group that I have been able to find for fibro and chronic pain. I have been dx'd with fibro for about 12 years, but had it most of my life. Having two autistic boys, you should qualify for SSI for them. Have you tried applying for that? Also, you would qualify for Medical or whatever medicaid your state has and some supplemental income. It might sound strange, but I have found and so have friends and family that Head On helps with headaches...even migraines. I'm sorry that you don't have a supportive husband, but at least you have found the right group to help support you. Again, I welcome you here very much!!!! Guest guest
Phyllis, welcome to the group. You are going through lots of trials. I know what fibro can do to limit our options in life. It truly does. When some people would just say " get out of the situation " , it is not that easy with a disease like this one. I also have a little boy diagnosed with autism. He is almost 6 and was put in special ed. He does not fit the traditional autism mold though. But he is on the " autism spectrum " with what they call " PDD " . Anyway, glad you are here. Vent anytime. hugs, Debra V. Subject: new member To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Date: Thursday, April 17, 2008, 11:20 AM Hi everyone, I am new to this group and was diagnosed with FMS 4 years ago. Guest guest
I'm new with the group plus recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Been having pain since July but thought it was from my arthritic hip but didn't go away after hip replacement. Took many tests, doctors and my GP and I searching for an answer. We first discovered I had severe RLS but then had pain after just doing simple things in yard on one of our spring days. Went into see GP and we both at the same time said " fibromyalgia " . She did the tender point check and I have 15 of the 18 with more tenderness on the left side. I'm a retired nurse (not by choice) and had to know everything I could and my GP knew I would start searching. Have found some articles and sites on web but decided to try joining a group to find out more and have support. If anyone knows of web sites for family and friends to understand, please let me know. Guest guest
Hi Folks, I'm a new member and found this group via Google. I want to thank the creators for the wealth of information on PSC that was organized for us. I was diagnosed in the past 3 months with both PSC and NASH. I know that having both increases my odds of developing Cirrohosis and other complications. My reading on PSC seems to consistently indicated that most people develop cirrhosis and, then, liver failure within 10 years. Am I reading the literature correctly? And. I know and my doctors confirmed that I am at higher risk in that I have two separate diseases that my odds of developing complications are even higher. But. Is there a typical course in terms of progression with PSC? Thanks for any help you can give and I look forward to the day when I can give something back to the group.
