Guest guest
Don't misunderstand where I was coming from - I agree that direct pressure is an excellent way to work on yourself and the sock and ball technique is the one that is generally recommended. My comment about opposite action being quicker was meant more for those times when you are in the midst of a bad one and the ball is in the other room. I sometimes get a mid-back cramp/spasm on the the right side. How I handle it depends on where I am and what I am doing. If I am sitting at the computer, I will generally make a fist, put the back of my hand against the spot and then forcefully lean back in the chair against my hand. If I am walking across a room and get hit, I immediately bend forward. Depending on the severity of the spasm, I sometimes modify both techniques with sound therapy by loudly and simultaneously uttering bad words. Both techniques work and both are good. My focus is using the one that will get the quickest results depending on the immediate circumstances. Let's face it - a major spasm hurts like hell and you want it gone and bye bye as quickly as you can. As for always have a sock and ball handy - you are prepared! Most people aren't.
