I saw Dr. Amstutz at the Joint Replacement Institute in L.A. today.

I was told that California Blue Cross will not approve hip

resurfacing at this time. I have been paying an extra premium for a

PPO each month for better coverage then an HMO but that doesn't make

any difference. I have to wait for FDA approval before Blue Cross

will even consider paying for resurfacing. He recommended a THR

because of the severe arthritis in the left hip but he did say the

structure could be reshaped for resurfacing. I will be investigating

resurfacing in Europe.
