Guest guest
I am a little confused about plantaris and atypical. Are all atypical clubfeet plantaris or is plantaris different than atypical. Dr Ponseti said that had atypical clubfeet because of the creases but never mentioned plantaris. I was also reading the web site A Different Foot about Plantaris and it said that it doesn’t show up until after the Tenotomy but just had hers done after she was diagnosed as atypical. Can anyone give me more info on plantaris vs atypical? Thanks. 1/30/04 bilateral atypical cf, in cast for another 2 weeks following her tenotomy
Guest guest
Wow! You found my website! It is still very incomplete and some of the information is outdated as alot has been learned about plantaris in the last few months. Because I have not had time to write about it to Dr P, I am not sure if what he originally called Plantaris is the same as the more recent cases of " atypical " clubfoot. I know that there are cases of atypical clubfoot that are NOT plantaris. But I also know that plantaris is included in " atypical clubfoot " . Hope that makes sense It could be that Dr P has figured out how to identify plantaris pre- tenotomy. I think there are telling factors. I think the foot - before any correction - would have a very deep medial/transverse crease on the sole with very severe cavus (very high arch). Kai's did, as well as a deep crease above the heel. Even after correction the creases on the sole tend to remain unless the foot is corrected with the manipulation that is geared specifically for this condition. If you look at the " catalogue page " on my site there are a few pictures Atypical simply refers to a foot that does not fall within the usual variances of clubfoot. There is someone here whose daughter had atypical clubfeet that were in equinus (toe down) but there was no varus/adduction (curling in of the foot). That falls outside the " norm " therefore is atypical. I think that overall atypical just refers to a foot that will not properly respond to the normal casting proceedure and needs to be manipulated a bit differently. You can always write to Dr P and ask if 's foot falls into the cavus/plantaris type group or if it is atypical in another way. Eventually I would like to add a bit of information about other kinds of atypical feet to my web site, but first I better finish off what I have on it already! lol Anyway, I hope this clears things up a bit - as much as possible!
