To have CF, you need to inherit a gene from each parent. Parents can be

genetically tested to see whether they are " carriers " of the CF gene. If

they are, then the fetus can be tested. I would doubt that it would have

anything to do with mercury given that it is definitively linked to a gene.

I have a friend whose brother had CF 9passed away age 12), she was tested and

her partner when trying for baby - they both had it and were given 1:150

chance of CF. Thier daughter has no CF, she is severly Autistic, no other family

history of ASD's or autoimmune probs. They are not ging to have any more

children.

My brother in-laws family carries the gene for CF. Both parents need to

be carriers of the disease for a child to get the disease. I believe

that if their is one carrier, you can transfer the carrier status to your

child, but not the disease. I know that Dr. Dorothy Calabrese (on the

DAN MD list)in Ca., has a child with CF. You may want to contact her as

she would have further details related to the issue of any mercury

connection.
