Hi Carol,

What a blessing........I have been praying for something like that to happen to me!......I have always had at least one dog in my life.......I had two large dogs before I got too ill to care for them......One was a pittbull/chow mix....and the other was a rottwieller/ german Shepard mix......they were my best friends and companions for many years. My `Bear' , the Pitt/Chow mix...was born at my house .....(my son was living with me at the time and he had a female Pitt Bull.) she was with me for 10 years. She was my Heart!.....My`Trouble' , the Rotty/Shephard mix came to me one day as I was walking Bear in our neighborhood......she was just a small puppy with the biggest Ears you ever saw!.....she came whining up to us crying for help.....Hence the name "Trouble".......She was in terrible trouble.....half starved.....full of fleas and worms and so very vulnerable in the street.

I took her around the neighboorhood .....posted signs.....and after a few days......I made her mine. I took her for shots, deworming and all. She had had her tailed docked, and it had not healed well......She was with me for about 5 years.

Before I got sick I used to attach a double leash to them and the other end to the handlebars of my bicycle and we would go for a `Bicycle'....every morning around the neighboorhood.

They were so smart and well-behaved.....I swear they knew every word I said.......

Then there was the little Pomeranian I rescued from the street after his being hit by a car.......Little `Alf' was a beat up mess.....he lost the tip of one ear, and his tail was broken, so that it no longer had it's curl.....He was so bruised and had a long gash on his back .....He lived under my couch for about two weeks before he would let me touch him to take him to the vet......As long as he was eating like there was no tomorrow and drank his water......I respected his wishes not to be hurt anymore by trying to pick him up.

So you see it seemed like God was dropping all these little guys in my lap....for me to take care of and to love.

When I was diagnosed with Lupus I tried to keep them.....but financial difficulties made it necessary for me to move from my wonderful two bedroom duplex with a yard, and gardens front and back , to a tiny efficiency apt.......I could not care for them anymore and had to have my son find a Rescue Facility that would take them.......I had to have him take them while I was in the hospital recovering from scalding my hand ....(.it was bad, second and third degree burns..) any way , I knew I could never let them go out that door if I was there....so he took them before I came home......I felt like I had lost my children..

I feel that I could care for a small dog.....after all I can go to the gym twice a week now and can walk better now that I have my knee brace....I fell and broke my knee in 2000......

But the powers that be have not dropped another little dog in my lap as yet....I can't afford to buy one or adopt one from a shelter....My budget is Very Limited, and it costs like $50.00 to get one from the shelters....then there's the spaying or neutering. So my only hope is for a little stray that no one else wants.

I am very envious of you ....yet not so much that I can't be happy for you and your new little friend......take good care of her!

What have you named her?

Subject: Just checking in & have to tell you about my new dog.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to check in and say hi. I hope everyone is doing well. I noticed there seems to be a lot of dog lovers on this site so I had to tell you about my new little angel.I just adopted a little chihauhau that was abandoned. I love little dogs and have always wanted one but my husband tends to like the bigger dogs so we have an Australian Shepherd.I guess God decided to bless me because I really couldn't afford any of the little dogs I liked so I just kept looking and dreaming about getting one someday.2 days ago my teenage daughter went jogging and while she was gone she called me on my cell phone to tell me she was at a neighbor's and they had found a stray small dog and needed someone to take it to the pound. I ran right over and found this tiny little 3.5 pound dog. I said if she doesn't belong to anyone I'm keeping her. They said they had called a couple of shelters etc but couldn't find anything. I took her to the vet yesterday and they examined her and said she is about 7 years old and looks like she might be part Mexican hairless. She is already spade and has no chip in her. They said she must have been traveling for quite a while because her little pads on her feet are worn out and raw and her skin is red and scraped up and looks sunburned. She has a missing tail and was starving. All I had to do with her was get her nails clipped and immunize her. Next week I will take her back in for a rabies shot and to have her skin looked at. They said sometimes older people have little dogs like this and they pass away or get sick and the family doesn't know what to do with them so they just leave them somewhere. Whatever the reason she came to us I consider her a blessing. She is so sweet she loves everyone and is already house trained. She follows me everywhere and wants to lay on my lap while I'm doing things. She doesn't like to be alone at all and is so cuddly and loving. I have to tell you I think this little dog is a blessing for me and my health also. I was having such a hard time getting up and felt like I was getting so depressed and focusing so much on my aches and pains. Now I feel like I have a reason to get up and get going and its taken my mind off of thinking so much about my physical pain. I'd love to take a picture and post it for all to see if someone can tell me how to do it. I have a digital camera and have no problem getting the pictures on the computer. Hope you are all doing well!
