Hi everyone

My second resurfacing, 10 days ago, at the Birmingham Nuffield

Hospital was an amazing experience.

Some of you may recall that I became addicted to Tramadol/morphine

after my first resurfacing (different surgeon/hospital) eleven months

ago. I would not wish the subsequent withdrawal experience on

anyone...I thought I was going mad!!. So, I had a seriously

deteriorating hip (I was hardle able to walk with one crutch) and was

terrified about facing another operation and possible regression.

I felt that the only way for me was to go to one of the top surgeons

in the world, with a very short operation time (35-45 mins), and a

highly experienced support team (thousands of ops behind them...45

alone the week I was in). I was lucky that Mr Treacy is only two

hours drive away and was happy to take me on.

Mr Ronan Treacy, Dr Freeman (anaesthetist), Onions

(Mr Treacy's surgical assistant) and their nursing and administration

teams were incredible. They are a true team: very focussed, caring,

communicative, humourous and are perfectionists.

I have returned home feeling better than I have for over a year, with

little pain, few meds and a very positive outlook.

I feel that if you are lucky enough to be treated by Mr Treacy's team

you have nothing to fear.

It's now up to me to do my bit: rest, exercise and listening to the

body....for the coming months. Since I belong to the 'Turtles' it may

take a while but what a prize awaits me if I get it right!!

Thank you for the constant support I had from the surface hippies,

especially Edith, Peggarthy, , Des, Lucy, Pat and Lari.

Hi ine

I am so glad your second experience is quite different than the first in the

positive side. Good for you to go to the best doctors. And who knows, maybe your

recovery will be different too! But remember to take it easy...

For me I continue to get very slow progresses and my patience is not always that

great! But I feel more at ease in my body eventhough the second hip is often

giving in on me. And also it is spring happening here!

I wish you a smooth recovery and hope to hear your progresses. Are you at home??
