Guest guest
Mike - Gut feeling says that the neurosurgen is speaking out of ignorance and an aversion to alternative. That's not at all substantial I know. I'll ask my chiro on Mon.....no promises. ------------------ I agree with your above statement 110%. Knowing what I do, I personally find it difficult to accept the neurosurgeon's statement at face value. But like I said when I sent the post, if I am going to post information, make suggestions, give recommendations, etc, on alternative approaches, I have an ethical and moral responsibility to everyone on this list to both post cautions such as this when they come to my attention, and to research them. Those modalities that I practice can generally be considered safe, gentle, non-invasive, and effective for the purposes intended. Having said that, every one of them also has both absolute and specific contraindications. As an example, there are specific points in acupressure and/or polarity that are absolutely forbidden during pregnancy because they can induce labor. By the same token, they can be and are used to assist induction of labor when the time is right. Same thing with lymphatic drainage. For a client suffering from true lymphedema, advanced levels of lymphatic drainage therapy can be a literal life safer. The caveat there is that advanced levels of training are also essential. What someone certified in lymphedema work can safely do is far different than what someone with just introductory level training is qualified to do. Since I personally practice and recommend cranialsacral work, I owe it to this list to call attention to something that MIGHT be a contraindication.
