Guest guest
....about 2, I woke up because I'd been clenching my teeth, putting a lot of pressure on the molar that's broken; the tooth itself may not have a nerve, but everything around it still does, and it really rather hurts. What do I do in the middle of the night? Reach for Gach. I guess it's an instinct now -- see what acupressure can do. So I used the toothache points on the right side (since it's a right side tooth) - St 6 and 3, LI 4 and since it's a molar, I find TW 13's really sore. I took two ibuprofen as an assist...and I managed to sleep the rest of the night without much annoyance. I thought. This morning, though, I noticed that my jaw doesn't seem to work first thing -- in my sleep, it kinda freezes in some way that completely distorts my bite, making the right side (with the broken molar) match up and function, while leaving a gap on the left side between upper and lower. My guess at the cause is I sleep on my sides. I suspect my jaw does this, or something similar, every time I sleep (it happened during a nap, too) -- and I'd never have noticed except for this broken molar that's made my jaw hypersensitive. I was trying to chew, and could only do it with the broken right side of my mouth...after a little while, my jaw finds its way back into place, and my bite's OK again. Strange. Stranger I'd never noticed -- I always thought my loose jaw didn't bother me. I bought a mouth guard I'll try tonight, because I really don't like clenching my teeth (given my upper roots already extend into my sinus cavities, what am I trying to do: push them ALL the way in?), particularly when it creates pain I don't have during the day. I use ST 2 for upper jaw and SI 17 for lower jaw. You can get a good description of point location on page 21 in Gach. ST 2 is basically directly below the center of the eye when looking straight ahead, pressing up under the cheek bone. SI 17 is beneath the earlobe, pressing forward against the back edge of the jaw bone. You will note that Gach does not list these points for toothaches. I don't remember which book I used to pull the info, but I have had good results using both points.
