I had both hips on the NHS. Currently they are correlating the outcome of

resurfacing patients and as you might expect they want those statistics to look

good. The training will be for some very experienced Orthopaedic Surgeons who

are learning the BHR techniques - they will not be students going through

medical school. Ronan Treacy did mine but at the follow ups I have seen some

of the registrars who work in his team. The last one was in his late 30's from

the south of England who had been an OS since his early 20's and was in the

process of converting to resurfacing as a primary speciality. If you consider

that a little over 15 years ago that MOM resurfacing was only being carried out

by 2 OS's - Treacy and McMinn who reinvented and developed resurfacing - you

realise that the likes of De Smet learnt from these guys. The USA and the rest

of the World are all using experienced surgeons who are retrained - everyone

wants good results.
