Guest guest
Hi all, For you that need a wheelchair, but aren't ready for a big power wheelchair, take a look at this alternative: http://www.independencenow.com/iglide/ It is a chair that looks like a sporty manual one, but it has a tiny package hidden under it with a battery, motor and a " smart computer " . When you push the chair, the motor will help you. The computer decides how much help you need and what kind of surface you are on... When you go downhill, down ramps etc., you still have to push a bit, because it brakes for you. Sure sounds just genius!!!! I just got an approval for E-Motion " helper motor " wheels for my manual chair. I am going to contact the soc. sec. tomorrow to see if I can get it changed to this one, for several reasons. One being that this one has gel batteries, and I travel a lot by airplane, so it would be a lot easier. When you go to gate, you just easily removes the little package under the chair, and take it with you into the plane. Then it is protected properly, and the chair itself goes into the " trunk " . I would not be surprised if I could manage to get this chair - all of it - inside many planes though. I have had my sporty chairs inside the stewardesses lockers several times while in the US, because my rigid frame sporty chairs are neat and easy to stash away even if they aren't foldable... And that way they are safe, no chance of those people ruining my chair!!! BTW, I plan on making " stockings " for the frame on my chair before I go to the US this time. I am tired of dents and scratches as well as misaligned frames. I plan on starting to protect it better. I was also thinking of using the elastic " sticky " bandage we use so much, with some foam or something under it. Just wrap it on and then take it off when I get there and re-do it when I go on the plane again. I like a neat and nice looking chair!!!
