Guest guest
Hello, On New Years Eve a ultra sound scan showed that my fourth pregnancy had gone the way of my previous three - with no fetal heart beat detected. Instead of having a D+C (as I have done previously) I have chosen to let " nature " do its job. So I am currently waiting for the 'miscarriage' to start. At the moment there is no sign of it starting and I am having no symptoms - but I have read that a missed miscarriage can take a few weeks to start - and my consultant thinks that the scan detected it within about a day. Like the other 3, all have been lost at 8-9 weeks. I am due back to the maternity hospital on the 14th to report my progress. After the 3rd miscarriage the hospital did every test going on myself, Simon and the baby - all proved normal. But, the consultant is convinced that we have a clotting problem which is depriving the baby of what it needs to survive. He wanted me to try baby asprin on this pregnancy, but I have had bruising/bleeding problems - so we decided that taking it for 9 months was not a good idea (assuming it worked). He is now suggesting Heparin. This is something he originally did not want to do due to the loss of bone density it would cause (and we know that my bone density is already low, though I have never broken anything) - but he is now suggesting it for the next pregnancy. We all feel that doing nothing will result in another missed miscarriage. Apparently heparin is given by a daily injection into the tummy or back and has to be taken for the duration of the pregnancy. Being a classical type with a lot of skin issues, I am wondering how a daily injection would effect me (bruising, bleeding, pain etc)? I am wondering if anyone else has been Heparin and what effects it had? How would daily injections be with classical type. Plus, due to many factors I would have a c-section (if we can get a pregnancy to progress) and I am wondering how thinning the blood with heparin would work with an operation - especially if it had to be done earlier than planned. I am quite scared at the moment, as I have no idea when the miscarriage will start. We have a number at the hospital to call if we have a problem and they are seeing us in 2 weeks. I get the impression that they would rather I have the D+C, but I really don't want an operation if it can be avoided and my consultant said that it had to start sometime naturally. Any advice would be very appreciated. Love, Fay. Classical Type - Age 26 - UK.
