Guest guest
I have been taking bc pills for quite some time now. In June 2002 I had an ultrasound that showed a fibroid measuring 0.6cm. Last ultrasound was August 2003 and showed that the existing fibroid is now 1.7cm. The radiologists showed me two other areas of my uterus on the film that appear like small spotted areas he said these are areas prone to develop fibroids in the future. When I told him that about a year ago the fibroid measured at 0.6 cm he doubted that anyone could even detect such a small fibroid. Never the less the growth is rather small and my periods are not heavy thanks to the bcps. I see some small clots every now and then but nothing too serious. My main problem is that I get very painful pressure during my periods to the point that I find it painful to sneeze, to sit down, to walk, going to the toilet and passing gas is also very painful. The radiologists commented that if I was to have a baby many of my problems could resolve by themselves. I really do not understand how having a baby could make my fibroid disappear / or my uterus stop producing fibroids. My experience with the pills is fine so far. To be honest I would not want to stop them because I am afraid what my periods will be like after that. Now I am bleeding for 3 days lightly and I am so happy. I could not go back to 7-10 days of heavy bleeding. I hope this will help andra
Guest guest
My doctors changed my birth control brand & strength 4 times over an 8 month period to " try " to help me with my horrible periods. The pills offered ZERO relief & it was only after I insisted on help NOW that I was sent for an ultrasound & it was discovered that I had 3 fibroids. (It was the submucosal fibroid that was causing my heavy & continous bleeding.) My doctor told me the fibroids were small & nothing to " worry " about. I again insisted on more help--I was tired, depressed, & weak. I was then sent to a fibroid specialist for a hystosonogram. I had a fibroid resection the next week by a fibroid specialist. My first 2 doctors were NOT good listeners & certainly not concerned enough about me to even test me for fibroids. My fibroid specialist told me that submucosal fibroids do not just " go away " . A submucosal fibroid that is causing heavy bleeding & painful continuous cramping needs to be removed to stop the bleeding & pain. My experience with switching birth control pills was not a positive one.
