Guest guest
I just had a flyer passed through my door for a new osteopathy practice that opened in the next town and they are boasting about this Bowen Technique, it sounds interesting! ------------- For those on the list not familiar with it, here is a brief, condensed, description from " The Encyclopedia of Bodywork. " " Fascial Kinetics, formerly called the Bowen Technique, is a series of gentle, cross-fiber massages used to manipulate the connective tissue and realign the body to promote balanced energy flow. The system incorporates subtle movements, joint tapping in the extremities and some hydrotherapy as it is used in physical therapy. It is extremely gentle to receive and easy on the practitioner's body to perform. Superfical fascia and connective tissue are the structures addressed in fascial kinetics. A series of light, transverse manipulations applied to the superficial fascia results in the same significant changes deep and painful stroking provides. The treatment is generally followed by a two-to-five minute rest, providing adequate time for neuromuscular reeducation. Once the fascia releases, there is an increase in circulation and lymphatic drainage. ....the attitude the practitioner brings to the therapy is as important as the technique ... suggests a love-centered connectedness between client and practitioner which (he)believes ins healing to both. " (He) refers to Sturgess who took the work of Tom Bowen (who died in the mid-1980s) and kind of developed the technique as a modality and ran with it. Based on the above, I would have no qualms recommending the procedure. By contrast, I am totally opposed to more aggressive modalities (such as traditional Rolfing) that achieve the same ends but do so in a far less gentle manner. As information, I am finding lately that I am getting very similar results as described above with just the energetic modalities such as polarity and acupressure. I also found the description to be interesting in that an objective is " balanced energy flow " and " a love-centered connectedness " is important in achieving desired results.
