I was away from the computer for a couple of says but I just wanted to respond to all those that kindly welcomed me the other day.

The more I see of many different doctors the more I realize that people on some of these support group lists are actually almost more informed than some of them. I have extra weight myself, but not enough I suppose that it is getting blamed for my health issues. Both my mother and grandmother were obese - and the more I think about it and their health complaints the more I am almost sure that they had some auto-immune issues going on. My mother passed away very suddenly last year and was not that old (only 67) and I don't know the cause. As I read more and more on lupus and thyroid problems - I just have this feeling she was undiagnosed with something. The trouble with all of these types of diseases is - they can be so easily overlooked and mimicked. And to many people and to some doctors - symtoms and complaints just look like aging unless they are very severe and obvious.

I'm glad to hear you confronted your doctor, MM. You're right about the fat does not cause ______. Just like one doesn't run a fever if they're just depressed.

I don't meant to complain so about the medical profession - but I have been sooooo disillusioned over the past 4 years.. Never thought they were "gods" before but - didn't realize they could be so uninformed. When I started running a low--grade fever, and was having month long migraines, no one would connect it to auto-immune issues. -whether thyroid or lupus related. They kept looking for tumors and cancers. Glad they did but.. My 1st Rheumy consult just told me I needed to exercise more. It helps all kinds of complaints. Just how does that explain my fever, Doctor.?

Re: KATE'S INTRO

Kate, you are most kindly welcome. It's a frustrating roller coaster ride, that's for sure, this tryingto get a diagnosis. Just burns me how many doctors like to blame things on the first obvious thingthey see. With me, it was always my weight. Because I didn't lose weight in huge, unplanned amounts it wasn't possible for me to have SLE, Thyroid problems, low BP, Fibro, etc, etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum. When I finally had taken all I was going to take on that score, I sat down andwrote my then Rheumy a long letter about how Fat didn't CAUSE SLE, Fat didn't CAUSE RA, Fat didn'tCAUSE Lyme Disease, Fat didn't CAUSE anemia, etc.

Good luck and keep us posted. Hugs, MM
