Mike,

I am not familiar with Polarity Therapy. Could you give me a little

background info? Also, would I do this technique while I am

experienceing the irregular heart rate, or is it somethign that

should be done frequently to prevent the palpitations (or both)?

Overall, my incidences of the palpitations and tachycardia have

decreased since I began taking atenelol (beta-blocker for neurally

mediated vasodepressor syncope) roughtly 6-7 years ago, but I've

noticed an increase in symptoms recently and was planning to talk to

my cardio about increasing the dosage. If I had another technique

that would help, it would be great!

In very broad, very simple terms, if you consider that acupuncture

and acupressure are the " bodywork " pieces of Traditional Chinese

Medicine, you can consider Polarity Therapy to be the " bodywork "

piece of Traditional Indian, or Ayurvedic, Medicine.

The underlying premise of both traditions is that there is

an " energetic " body as well as a physical body. The big distinction

between the two is that Chinese medicine focuses on the standard

12 " meridians " and associated points and Ayurvedic/Polarity works

more with the Chakra energy centers and other aspects of the

energetic body. Historically, the big hangup for western based

medicine was that western based medicine rejected the concept that

there was such a thing as an energetic body in the first place.

There has been more than ample research done in the last 50 years to

confirm the reality, although not enough has been done yet to fully

identify (from a western sense) why a lot of it works. But there is

no longer any question about the body having electromagnetic fields.

At any rate, many physical symptoms/problems are in reality caused

by imbalances in the energetic body, or imbalances in the body's

bioenergetic fields.

In addition to being a Licensed Massage Practitioner with the

standard Swedish and Neuromuscular training, I have also had pretty

heavy levels of training in both Polarity and Acupressure. I find

that I get far better results with the energetic modalities than I

do with the standard stuff. Quite frankly, I can get results using

these two modalities that are simply impossible with the standard

stuff.

As for doing the release, the answer is both. You can use it while

experiencing palpitations to try to readjust the rhythm back to

normal for a specific incident. You can also use the release as a

preventative.
