Guest guest
hi all wondering if anyone can enlighten me as to why andy says for mercury toxic people to avoid dandelion root, as it is recommended in a multitude of sources for liver support. i emailed him directly but have not heard back yet. i have an herbal tincture i would like to try but it has dandelion root, burdock and yellow dock. it says it will help strengthen the liver but then i remembered that andy says dandelion is contraindicated for mercury poisoning.... explanations appreciated. thanks julie

He has heard many reports of people having problems after using liver cleanse types of herbs / protocols. I have also read some reports of pretty severe problems after liver cleanses. I don't really agree or disagree with his thinking on liver herbs--- I'm not sure he's right and I'm not sure he's wrong, and I am skeptical about his assessment. There may be parts of his thinking I've not represented fully, I'm restating what I remember. If you want to follow Andy's thinking you could use lots of milk thistle still, no controversy on that one. good wishes, Moria
Guest guest
thanks so much moria from my understanding, dandelion root is not a liver " cleanse " but is liver support. it is noted everywhere for supporting the liver, much more than i've seen milk thistle. i wonder why milk thistle--which also stimulates bile production--is okay, and dandelion is not.... if anyone knows, please write! thanks again julie > He thinks that some (bile producing) herbs are " irritants " to > the liver and that this is how they produce the effects they > do. Milk thistle is THE MAIN liver support herb! At least within Western herbs, and at least in my understanding. For example, note the title of the booklet " Milk Thistle: the liver herb " by Hobbs. Not " a liver herb " . I don't want to get into what is a cleanse vs. what is support, I think it is not a particularly meaninful distinction. I personally would EXPECT " support " herbs in any (good) " cleanse " . Dandelion is used in (some) liver cleanse preparations (I just checked Schulze's). I'm not an expert on any of that...... good wishes, Moria i wonder why milk > thistle--which also stimulates bile production--is okay, and > dandelion is not.... > > if anyone knows, please write! > thanks again > julie > > > > He thinks that some (bile producing) herbs are " irritants " to > > the liver and that this is how they produce the effects they > > do.
