Guest guest
I'm really at a loss here and hope someone can help me. We have been doing the DAN protocol for a few years with very little results. (My son is now going on 11.) We recently found out that he is high in sulfur so he is on L-Serine to dump out the excess. The Dr. warned me this will cause diarrhea but of course it hasn't because my son is constipated and he continues to have a b.m. every 3 days. In addition, he is high copper with pyroluria. (treated in past with zinc+mega vitamins as per Pfeiffer to no avail). Despite all of our efforts to heal his gut (GFCF for 5 years, Feingold, SCD for 6+ months, enzymes, probiotics...) nothing seems to work. My question is, he obviously isn't absorbing his supplements and he is high in metals (mercury, antimony, copper, and arsenic) and I know we need to chelate to get rid of these metals, but how can I give him DMSA (or any other chelating agent) when I know he won't absorb it? I believe ALA is out of the question due to high sulfur/copper. Is that correct? We also know from other testing (energy work included) that his liver and kidneys are functioning poorly. Do we chelate anyway? Wait even longer for things to straighten out in his system (who knows how much longer that will be)? What can we possibly do for him? I am truly at a loss. Guest guest
You have said a whole bunch of totally irrelevant stuff that suggests you may not have a doctor who knows how to do this yet (most DAN! doctors unfortunately do not) but does not provide the information needed to give an intelligent answer to your questions. Useful information is WHY you think he has high copper and sulfur in the form of specific named tests and test results. Also if you have a DDI hair element profile, posting it in the standard format would be helpful. Also if you chelated on the DAN! protocol it is possible he needs chelation but just didn't get better since it is a harmful and inappropriate way to chelate. At least he didn't get worse. Exactly how did you chelate him? Giving him more mangesium may at least promote a normal healthy frequency of bowel movements, like once or more a day. When you post further details, send me the post number privately and I'll get on the list and respond. Andy . .. . . . . . > I'm really at a loss here and hope someone can help me. My son tolerated basically no foods or supplements. I used ALA and now he tolerates all foods and several supplements. I would definitely consider trying chelation, low dose, see what happens. It might take longer, but based on my son's experience, it will probably be helpful. Dana

I finally am addressing the yeast/gut issues that my Dan Dr's did address properly. We tried oral chelation for about 9- 10 months with no improvement. Now we are to try the Transdermal DMPSA>

If you want you can consider giving him magnesium to help with the constipation. Or intestinal cleansing formula #3 (in fig syrup) from American Botanical Pharmacy. > In > addition, he is high copper with pyroluria. the high copper is according to what test? > (treated in past with > zinc+mega vitamins as per Pfeiffer to no avail). It will still work, actually. > I believe ALA is out of the question due to high sulfur/copper. Is > that correct? It depends on what test is showing the high copper and it depends on how high it is. If it is not HIGH HAIR COPPER then it is okay to use ALA. Also don't use ALA if he has had RECENT mercury exposure (e.g. injected thimerosal). > We also know from other testing (energy work included) > that his liver and kidneys are functioning poorly. I am truly at a loss. Well, I don't have an answer for your overall dilemma, but you can certainly start giving him milk thistle 3 times a day to start to help his liver. For kidneys I recommend feeding him large amounts of watermelon (no, I am not kidding). It is the right time of year for it, too. These would be a good start on the liver/kidney issue; you can do more and read more and ask more if you want to. good wishes, Moria
