Guest guest
I was trying to do some crafts stuff and slipped a bit on some stuff on the floor making me twist to keep my balance and HELLO bad stabbing pain in upper middle back left side about where the last rib is. My big concern is that it is somewhat hard to breathe. I can only take a deep breath with a LOT of difficulty. I really think it's a muscle cramp/spasm just in a bad spot but this is a new one to me so figured I'd ask. It's very spot specific - about a 2 inch area about 3 inches from spine. Hopefully by the time people read this it will be better :-) Any help would be greatly appreciated. -------------------------------- If I had to bet money on it, I would wager on your having subluxed a rib. The pain pattern you describe, particularly with the extreme difficulty breathing, is very typical with having a rib out. If it is a rib problem, the explanation below will tell you how to work on it. If it does not seem to be a rib, let me know and I will see about giving you some other suggestions. You can check on yourself by palpating both along the left side of the spine and the left side of the sternum. Because of the natural curvature of the ribs, the rib joins the spine about 1-2 inches higher than where it connects in front. The exact spacing varies by individual because of torso length. At any rate, palpate/poke/prod whatever both in front and in back. If you hit tender spots, front and back, with the above mentioned spacing, you have a rib out. The Polarity Therapy technique to put a rib back in is called a Rib Head Release. Reach back behind with your left hand and place the tip of your left thumb against the tender spot. Take the tips of the middle two fingers of your right hand and place them against the tender spot in front and just hold with a medium pressure. If you can, try to drop into a semi-meditative state and focus your intention between your hands. At the same time, do deep diaphragmatic breathing (deep into the abdomen instead of shallow chest breathing). It usually takes 30-60 seconds to have an energetic sensation kick in. What you are looking for is a feeling of warmth, pulses, wobble, etc. Trust me on this, the ribs can and do move back in place by themselves. I have lost count of the number of times I have put ribs back in using this technique on all four of us here (Barb, Kerry, my wife and myself). And there are more than one or two on the list who have always used it successfully. I just did this on myself earlier in the week when mine went out.
