Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sis called me just a little bit ago. She did make it into her family doctor, and surprisingly, the results are not horrible, and are on the upswing! Her potassium level had risen to 4!! That's the highest it has been in months! I think the normal range is 3.5-5.5, so it is within normal limits. Her doctor thought that it rose because of the liquid potassium and the slow release potassium pills. Even though her body was having problems with the liquid potassium, especially along with IBS, she was able to retain some potassium from that. He said that he thought the liquid potassium had irritated her digestive and bowel system and made it red and inflamed, and that the slow release pills should not irritate her system like the liquid did. Surprisingly, she is not dehydrated either, according to her doctor, though he didn't really give her any numbers except the potassium level. He said her conscious patient effort of trying to sip all day long was enough to ward off the dehydration. He said the rest of her blood tests looked 'OK'. She asked him if he thought she needed to see a nephrologist, (she informed him of Dr. Francomono's suggestion) and he said that if her potassium level had not been within a normal range, that yes, he would have recommended that. The plan is that she is to take Nexium 3 times a day, an hour before meals and cut down the potassium to two pills a day, until her tummy settles down and the IBS settles down and is ready to accept more. She will slowly work back up to the six pills that she was taking before her appointment. She is to go back in two weeks (at the most) and have another blood test. If this does not work, they will need to decide what to do next. I am sending this same email to Dr. Francomono, as Sis said that if Dr. Francomono did not agree with Dr. 's plan, that she would not hesitate to do anything Dr. Francomono suggests, as her primary doctor is only a general practioner. As for Lennie, he does have Bronchitis (AGAIN) and was given antibiotics. He had been on some antibiotics for the same thing only a few weeks ago, but dove down drastically again. He does not have to work this weekend, so hopefully, he will feel much better by Monday, with some rest and medicine in his body. Sis said when the doctor was speaking to Lennie, that she seriously looked at him and said that she understood an injection of Thorazine would help drastically! (Thorazine is an anti psychotic drug). The doctor said that he would give her a quart jar and a dirty needle for him. LOL! I asked her if Lennie understood what was being said, and he said, " As you can tell, doctor, she's not too sick to still be wicked! " So Sis hasn't lost her sense of humor OR her tremendous will to live. Thank God! I will be calling her again at the first of next week and will let you all know how she's doing, but she made me promise to tell you all THANK YOU SO MUCH for your prayers and positive thoughts, and that she felt that was a huge part of her being much better by this morning! I thank you all as well! You guys have helped so many of us in this fashion! Personally, I consider you all to be MY primary and spiritual doctors MOST of the time! I hope you all have a great weekend! Much love, Lana
