Dear Blue

My advise, get it done as soon as possible, life quality will improve greatly. I

had a bilateral 10 weeks ago and it's geat walking

without pain again. My arthritis started almost 3 years ago when I was 37 and I

had hardly any movement left in my hip for the last year.

Mine was done by De Smet in Belgium, who is very good and wonderful in

responding to patients from abroad (I live in Singapore)

via e-mail (read my comments from about 1 week ago on this site). He has also

done a lot of BHR and a good number of bilateral. I

suggest you send him your x-rays and he will get back to you and answer any

questions you might have. As far as I know resurfacing

is currently the best option especially if you are young and there are plenty of

websites where you can read more of the procedure etc.

Obviously, there are other doctors worldwide who are very good and in the end

you have to find the doctor you feel most comfortable

with. I had both hips done at the same time and would highly recommend it as

except maybe for the first 2 days, I don't think there is

that much different having one or two done (except still not able to sleep on my

side but that's a minor issue). If you look at De Smet's

website, you will find lot's of information on hospital stay, recovery and cost

(about EUR19,000 for bilateral plus hotel accommodation

and plane ticket).

Hope that helps as a start and please send me any questions you might have to

asoeteber@... as I don't read this message

board that regularly anymore.

Blue,

you sound much like longing for snowy slopes... Last March, when my

hip arthritis put it plain: " No more skiing " ; I felt the same... Then

I found (BTW, Tom G., thanks once more!!) resurfacing... having had

my device installed last August, I celebrated my 4 months on

the " other " side with SKIING AGAIN! Kind of magic, or so...

So why not to take a chance given. If I may suggest, gather your

Xrays and rush for any OS performing resurfacing to consult (of

course - be

aware of those who do NOT know, or do NOT WANT to know).

Personally, I would recommend Dr. DeSmet.
